Just keep at it. I used to be the same way, but if you keep running regularly, maybe 3-4 times a week, you will see improvement within a month or two. I went up to over 4 miles that way.
It's all about mind over matter. The pain you feel will soon numb up if you keep at it. For me, it hits at around 12 mins after I start. 5 mins later, I cant feel the pain anymore and its just putting one foot in front of the other. Do you find yourself stopping because of the "burn" or because youre out of breath? |

That's more than a mile. That's closer to 2 miles. I find that the first mile is always the hardest for me. Once I hit that point and just keep going then it gets much easier and I can go for much longer. Try just running more often and pushing yourself to go a bit farther and see how you progress.

If it's you're breathing, then that's easy; just keep running regularly and your cardiovascular system will improve. Also try tabata intervals, i hear it helps. Sprint 20 secs rest 10. Then sprint 20 secs again and rest 10. Do this 8 times for a total of 4 minutes. 4 mins sounds easy but it's actually pretty intense. This type of training will increase your VO2 max in no time, meaning not getting out of breath so fast.

Hey I have a question. I do 5 sets of 20 pushups using the standard pushup form 3 times a week. I've done this for a month and I see a bit results. But, what can I do to increase my upper body more (like the chest, arms, etc.) while doing pushups? Should I extend my arms wider or should I close them in forming a triangle? Thanks
