Unbelievable foresight.
Did he ever give his opinion on any "fantasy" matchups?

I think I have that. Didn't he go with: Page UD 15.

You've definitely got the book, he picked Page, Thomas and Coetzee, the latter by big right hand stoppage

True. Although he started all three pieces by saying: "If The Mallard agrees to get in the ring with this fine specimen..."

I would not know the best... Arcel perhaps?

But I know the worse...

Bruno to beat Tyson in 96

Bugner to beat Bruno

Cowdell to beat Nelson

Berbick to beat Tyson

Spinks to beat Tyson

Briggs to be one of the great Heavies

The only two that I can point to, to redeem myself (very slightly) are:

I made £100 on Douglas/Tyson (No, not for picking the winner, but for getting the old man to put a £5 bet at 20/1 that fight lasted longer than 8 rounds.)

The other big-ish win was £240 (£10 at 24/1) Holyfield to beat Tyson first time round.

Speaking for myself, if I had any competence whatsoever at predicting outcomes I might be hanging out in the General Forum. (Gasp!) It's soooo much safer to make predictions on matches which will never take place.

While Cosell was only so-so when predicting outcomes, he did apparently predict the outcome of Foreman/Frazier I accurately, yet still did a superb job of conveying shock and surprise when it actually happened.

Nat Fleischer wrote that Jack Johnson correctly predicted the outcome of Schmeling/Louis I. (Johnson cited Joe's off balance delivery of his jab which, along with his tendency to sometimes bring it back low, was the only deficiency in his punching technique I've ever read about.) That makes me wonder who else went on record as predicting Max the winner before that upset took place. (One of these days, I'll have to dive into the microfilm at a local library to read what the prognostications were at the time.)

Ali was the best predictor because he picked himself over Liston and Foreman when very few "experts" did; he did this on two huge stages. Plus he accurately predicted quite a few of his early wins. As long as he was in control, he was a great predictor.

Accurate predicting seems devilishly difficult. Ali chose Berbick and Spinks over Tyson. Cosell feared for Ali against Foreman. But I think if you do your homework, understand the circumstances of the fight, and not just speak from visceral preference, you can predict pretty accurately yourself.

Fridge came in at well over 400 pounds for that fight. He was exhausted by the time he entered the ring.

You mean by the time he finished climbing the steps. Still, all he had to do was cut off the ring, and then squash the beanpole. Nonetheless, Manute made Kellerman's prediction look bad.
