Duran was a mean fighter. A genuine badass of the highest order. It wasnt contrived like maybe some of Aaron Pryor`s antics later on. He was a natural warrior and natural fighting machine.
With that said anyone is beatable. Sometimes he gained weight between fights or partied too much. He was able to get away with it when he was young but it eventually caught up to him. |

At 29 years old Duran moved up 12lbs and beat Ray Leonard in his prime division. That cant be ignored.
Flip the script..could Leonard had he been a natural Jr Feather 122lber been able to put on 12+lbs at 29 years of age and beat a Prime Snarling Sadistic 135lb Roberto Duran? With Duran having a height advantage on top of it? It just wouldnt have been that competitive. Duran wouldve knocked him out no matter how many times they fought. Ray Leonard running around the ring in New Orleans wasnt all that impressive but even giving him credit for that so so performance all it proved was that he was a better Welterweight than Duran. Thats it. |
