attacked? i gave him about 3 compliments, all i did was critisize his opinion on liston.

Chirs is a poster you get or you don't. I understand where he is coming from, although of course at times we will disagree on something.

You also criticise Seamus. Why? I respect his opinion because he tells it the way he sees it and does not suger coat his opinion in any way.

This thread looks a lot like American political campaign: more mud throwing than actual arguing.

First of all, let me erase the mis-conceptions:

-It has been suggested that i'm a professional boxer. I'm not, just an amateur.

-I have stated that there is a chance that Liston, Foreman, Norton etc may have juiced themselves and there were no steroid checks at all back then. Hence, if they did, we'd never know. Of course i have never stated that the chance of Liston and Vitali juicing are equal, but sometimes people only see what they want to see, it seems.

-Byrd: 6'0 212lbs, no fat stomach or anything
-Liston: 6'0 210lbs, dito. Did Byrd get that big naturally? No. Did i ever claim he did? No. However, 210 pounds was just as much in the 60's as it is right now. It's not like Byrd stepped up in weight the way Toney did and he didn't add plastic muscle or something either. They are just as heavy and that is a fact.

Gotta love the fact that people critisizing him for being small though, because the same people make Liston out to be some monster, while forgetting that almost all his big wins come against those same "undersized" guys.

As for Pontius, tho i don't see quite eye to eye with him on Liston he's still IMO as unbiased a poster as i will ever see, not to mention an absolutely brilliant one in many many ways.

I assume "knowledgeable" means in lockstep agreement with the Liston adoration which is so fashionable on this board. And this is the same Liston I routinely rank in the top 10 to 12 heavyweights ever which is apparently not good enough.

Liston was "super strong" at 212 lbs and used as a enforcer and a
bill collector by the "M-boys". Once threw a cop head first into a trash can
and left him there....which kinda p.o.'ed the entire police force for his lack of respect for the men in blue.

Now Byrd, well, he has a nice looking wife, can box in a phone booth via pitter-pat punches, but has not been asked to join the "Untouchables" that I know of.

Magoo's threads were welcome and once I saw the point he was making underneath, they were humorous.

Pontius is great. We are in opposite corners when it comes to Liston but he's nothing if not formidable in crafting arguments.

Seamus is another poster who commands consistent reading of his posts.

Liston's ranking as HW champ is akin to Tommy Burns. That's about it. Head-to-head, I find him in possession of an usual set of serious assets and he's dangerous to anyone. He is also a tragic figure who gets NO RESPECT that I know of outside of the Classic Forum and grizzled old fellows who watched him in the 50s and who spend their days in old school gyms on the east coast.

Liston deserves to be remembered as something more than the guy who Ali made a fool out of twice and who died with a needle stuck in his arm.
