What's everyones' favourite Louis knockout? Mine has to be when he destroyed Johnny Paychek with that overhand right.

Schmeling was brutal. You could see shockwaves reverberating through Schmeling's body.

That video is what inspired this thread. The killer efficiency he dispatches his opponents with gave me goosebumps.

You people would love Ike Williams' knockout of Jose Gatica. It's the best I've seen.

The second B Baer fight where Buddy does a piruetbefore dropping,I think the Simon fight is funny where Abe gets up ,the referee tells him he,s been counted out,he puts his gloves up to his face and goes into a crying fit,the Braddock ko is pretty final too.

For me, the Maxie Baer KO. A triple left hook? When have you ever seen that?

The fact that everyone has a different opinion just shows how many great KOs this man had.

This is true. Joe Louis did struggle with slick boxers. He was a bit slow and methodical. Fast boxers are always trouble for punchers like Louis. George Foreman was a mammoth puncher, but he had real trouble with Muhammad Ali and Jimmy Young.

The combos he strung together to take out both Billy Conn and Jersey Joe were just textbook. One punch setting up the next while he took perfectly placed steps to get angles.

Just watched "The Joe Louis Story" on TCM. I couldn't tell who any of the actors were, movie wasn't bad at all I was surprised I had never heard about it before. The fight clips were great. Joe did so much for his country he should always be remembered and respected for his contribution to his/Our country. A True Champion.

I watched it as well. Great movie.

Louis was really a credit to the sport of boxing. Anyone who views some of his better footage is in for a treat. The man threw combinations like no other fighter before or after his time. What's more, he could take a good punch and go the distance when necessary. Louis not only improved the sport of boxing by setting a lot of valid standards, but he also helped to unite the country during a time of real kaos. When people think of boxing, they should think of Joe Louis before just about anyone else.

Not a lot of footage of Figg though...

I'm about to start Bare Fists, there's a long account of Figg's greatest battle in that book, I believe.
