Name some fighters who you'd' expect to beat the George Foreman who fought Frazier and Norton ('73-'74) ........

Pre Liston Foreman only gets beat if he was fighting under the rules of the time (i.e. Dempsey's time or Jeffries time) because I do not fancy anyone from pre 1960 beating 73 Foreman if the rules were that of 1973.

But that said I see Jackson; Corbett; Jeffries; Johnson; maybe Langford; Wills getting the job done if 1973 Foreman was brought back to 1888-1918....

What differences in rules would make a difference to Foreman's chances ?

Dempsey is not peaked in the Firpo fight.

Take Toledo Dempsey and put him in with Foreman and he'll make kebab meat out of him. Though I rank Marciano higher all time, I like Dempsey's chances better against Foreman.

Marciano has a chance though, it's a close fight. I just wouldn't neccesarily be picking him to win.

Boxing pre 1960 is a different sport to the modern era; boxing pre 1920's even more so. Foreman's weight advantage gives him an edge over many old-timers if the bout was fought under modern rules IMO.

So you think Buddy Baer would have a better chance than Jack Dempsey under 1970's ruleset?

Buddy Baer I would think would benefit fighting Dempsey if they thought in the 1870's under London Prize....

My point is a Jeffries (for example) would benefit from smaller gloves (thus Foreman would have to think of his hands when his bombs) and a longer distance (25 rather 15 rounds) and more lenient refereeing when it came to wrestling...

It looks to me as if Foreman loves all that pushing, shoving, holding-and-hitting, esp. against smaller opponents. Maybe the old-timers were better at it though.

Marciano is about the easiest stylistic matchup for Foreman of any of the great modern HW's.

I say the Liston1 Muhammad Ali...He boxes rings around George...hitting him with everything but the kitchen sink...Ali loved forward coming sluggers...George was too slow for that version of Ali....he would hit nothing but air...before The Greatest steals his heart...just like he did to Liston.

I'd give Liston a good chance as well.He was just big enough...George would'nt be able to bully Sonny...and Sonny hit hard enough to KO any HW in history IMO.The only question in this match-up is ...who'd pull the trigger first.

After Ali and Liston the list gets leaner. I think Holmes and Lewis would have turned the trick too. After that all bets are off. He'd have a great chance against anyone else IMO.
