The Asst coach still fights in the amatures. He is a kick boxer but boxes her and there. 2-3 years ago he could not touch me.
Now I am just getting it back and learning it all over again. I have been boxing tall guys and staying on them. I smother them. I tried it on the short guy which was stuid because it only worked on the tall guys because I was short. He pummeled me because I stayed in his range. I was trying to get at his body but can't touch it. It's like he's so short there is nothing to hit. On top of that I was always told to drop and throw your hook level with your chin. He is to short for that. How do you attack a short guys body? |

that shouldn't be a strategy with short guys. one of the guys I spar with is short and stocky, so his gameplan is aggression and power. the only times I go to the body is if I'm jabbing his stomach to set up a straight right to the head or if we're just inside brawling (but I try to keep that from happening). You can seriously frustrate short guys with a sharp jab, solid footwork and a good straight right to make them think twice about coming straight forward.

DIP!
You can also keep him busy while dipping. Touch him with the jab and come in with the right hand. Touch him with the right hand and come in with a hook. |

of course you know to get the jab going and control the center of the ring, the smaller man wants to get on the inside and if he can he is going to want to make you move straight back so you cant punch use plenty of angels and feints.
Bend your Knees and get lower if you do it correct you will be walking him into a jab that is at his level, and it will off set him, use plenty of feints before you go to the body, feint with the jab feint with the hook then throw a shot to the body, nothing hard, throw the shot fast so you get your hand back where it belongs so he doesnt have time to counter. its hard to fight shorter guys but if you want to work that body your going to have to take some risk in there. |

LoL. Forget about it. The short guy leans forward 20 degrees to hit you, you try to punch downward at 20 degrees to reach his body and you end up basically trying to land a punch on a wall which is now in total, slanted towards you at 45 degrees. That is a bad thing.
Even if you are taller and you punch downwards, HE can hit you by punching perfectly straight. Therefore you end up losing some of your maximum range. So to get the correct adjustment (like bazooka and Achilles are saying) you should crouch on your knees and keep your body perfectly straight so that you are now punching from the same head height as the shorter man -now your arm range plays into effect and you can hit lower targets without compromising it through angular differentiation. In those complicated terms more or less, LoL. |

if you catch him with a jab or a right hand coming in you might be able to hit him with an uppercut to the solar plexus if you choose to stay close to him
