Default when rahman beat lewis

once you heard a rematch had been made, how many people expected that rahman would beat lewis again? be honest

i am asking because before the amir-prescott fight everyone predicted khan would win, now that prescott has knocked khan out almost everybody has said that prescott would win 10 times out of 10 now?,strange?

I knew Lewis would beat Rahman in the return.... I considered it a formality.

he was not winning easily from what I remember, and had been caught with a couple of big right hands the round he got done in.

the situation is totally different with Khan. I backed Lewis in the rrematch at 4/9 as that was way too big a price, Lewis had shown enough at that point for you to know he just ****ed up and fought bad for a night.
It's obvious Khan is nowhere near world class and if Prescott is made any kind of underdog in a rematch, I'd bet on him. Presott himself is probably not world class, time will tell.

I thought not very likely at all. I knew Lewis was being an idiot by fighting at altitude with no time to acclimatise and doing film shooting when he should have been training.

I was very pissed off at him for being so dumb to be in such shit shape that he was gasping by round 2 and sluggish from the opening bell. And yet even then he was winning the fight.

I was very very very confident that he would get in top shape and wipe the floor with Rahman.

It is one of the most stupid and needless losses in boxing history. He should be kicking himself to this day, because had he come in shape and the first fight had gone as the second did, his stock would be much higher in many doubters eyes now and his one loss would be an early stoppage when he was up at 6 and before his prime years.

If he had not been so dumb you would barely find a person who would not have him top 6 of all time and many would have him top 3.

I think most people disregard the losses, anyway. In the same way people ignore Ali's performance against Jones, Frazier aganist Bonavena, Tyson against Douglas and so on.

I have Lewis at 4. Behind Ali, Louis and then Holmes. I don't think there is much of an argument to have him outside the top 6 and if there is one, I doubt it is based on the losses to McCall or Rahman.

Anyway, Lewis lost because he messed up. Khan lost because a puncher is his kryponite.

respected american boxing writer Budd Schleburg all time heavyweight rankings

he had Holyfield about at 10 or 11

Tyson at maybe 15

and Lennox Lewis at a lowly 25th postion

it seems the Americans dont rate him as highly as us Brits

I think he is top ten - but it is all time rankings - and any all time great would have a good chance of knocking him out with their power - like George Foreman - etc

I thought theier first fight was close at the finish.

I didnt think Rahman would win the second fight but there should have been a rubber match.

People seem to give Lennox a bypass for his **** ups.....lucky punch, not training proper, etc.

Lewis fought a very, very close fight with Mercer and refused to grant him a rematch.

Lewis went 1-1 with Rahman and refused to give him a third fight saying that he proved it was a lucky punch due to the ending of their rematch.....people bought that.

Lewis had an agreement with the alphabet belt (IBF I THINK) that the winner of Lewis Holyfield would meet Ruiz, Lewis refused to therefore was stripped, Lewis claims his superiority over Ruiz without actually fighting him, once again people dont question him.

Lewis then took Tyson to court to stop him having a warm up against Mercer because if Tyson lost it jepordised HIS fight.

Lewis beat Klitschko, questionably, and then retired instead of granting him a rematch.... again people made excuses, Lewis was undertrained, Lewis was training for another fighter as though Klitschko wasnt.

Well my rant has finished.

Lewis was unlucky in the 1st fight and had done ok till the KO.

Amir was shit for the whole of the 56 seconds, what will he do in a rematch ? Run for 36 minutes ?

Americans probably didn't reckon much of Lennox purely because he was better than any of theirs.

They are the most insular nation in the world!

I was worried, no doubt, mainly because Lewis was 36 by this point and I wondered if he'd still have the drive to win. Don't underestimate just how tough it is to come back from a knockout loss to immediately take on a rematch.

He dispelled those worries with one of his finest performances.
