Boxing fans need to get out of this mentality. Let a man grow. Everyone bashed Freitas and then he came back and beat Raheem. That fight made him a real P4P for the very first time! This is boxing, one punch changes everything. |

Joe Calzaghe at his peak at 168 may very well only be beatable by a peak Jones at 168. I definitley see Calzaghe beating any MW moving up to 168 peak/peak...

What about Watson at his best, like the first 10 rounds and 2:50 of the Eubank rematch? Quote:

Matched footspeed(only guy in history for that matter) Better timing Over hand right beats Calzaghe to the punch everytime, will land frequently. Calzaghe can make it fun, left hook will land at times, he can make it rough, get a flurry going, but will be stopped by the right in his tracks and the fight will be fought at a high pace. Toney's too inactive, his shoulder roll opens him for the awkward angles, he'd likely lose a very wide decision to Joe, if not a clear one... The rest, even Michalczewski wouldn't win either. |

While he fought in spurts, he let his hands go in combo and threw lots of shots. |

You nailed it. That's why all the "next Tyson" guys IMMEDIATELY jumped ship after the fight. The same thing happened with Zab after Tzsyu, although it took more time and a lot of "premature stoppage"s later. This type of thing always happens when one fighter is propped up, and I'm sure it will happen one way or another when PBF and Hatton fight as well. People put so much hope and investment in a fighter, than when he loses like Lacy did, it's a race to see who can put him down fastest and most definitively. I remember things like "nobody knew who Lacy was before the fight," and other stuff like that. Give me a break. The same thing will happen with Calzaghe-Kessler, particularly if Kessler loses (and I think he will). |

Amazing display of boxing - masterclass is the word that comes to mind. I believe Jeff knew the fight was over in the 3rd round after Joe got done landing wicked shots off the ropes, and then spun him around;the defeat in Lacy's eyes said everything.
Lacy is a tough game fighter,so of course he kept coming forward.....But he knew he was beat after the 3rd round. This was a performance, more than anything. A true performance. |
