Default School me on Mickey Walker

I am interested on some serious thoughts about how great Walker is. I am seeing him included in some P4P top 10 lists, while I have in the past placed him about 15+ or so. This seems consistant with the ESB forum P4P results that we did about 2 years ago where Walker was around 17. Does he have a good argument for top 10, can it be argued to place him ahead of Moore, Duran, Gans etc. Where do you place him and why???

Gene Tunney said that he was better pound for pound than Sugar Ray Robinson.

He might just be right!

I have him #12 behind Pep and it's no doubt to me he was overshadowed by Greb and the much bigger popular heavyweight scene which he ventured, despite his numerous HOF wins. There is a post that perfectly illustrates him somewhere in classic.

he's been getting a lot of attention recently

I loved it. Greb really turned me on to looking into the forgottens like Walker, Rosenbloom (200+wins and like 16 KOs!) Loughran, Flowers etc who most likely were second fiddle to Greb and then champ Dempsey as far as praise is spread out.

Can you imagine if that was the only footage we had on Walker ?
Like they do with the Greb sparring footage some fans would say "look, Walker was amateurish!"

I did Benny Leonard's. Should I post it?

I admit, I finished it last night -- when I was sleepy as tits!

good stuff.

i got walker around top 15. i've always held the greb loss and the controversy of the flowers wins a bit too much against him...it's unfair and he's just fantastic on record and even the footage of him is solid

I really only have Whitaker higher, Ross lower, Fitz Higher, Ray Leonard Lower and Walker lower, which with all the attention he is getting I think my #12 spot is justified something like...

1. Ray Robinson
2. Harry Greb
3. Hank Armstrong
4. Sam Langford
5. Ezzard Charles
6. Muhammad Ali
7. Ben Leonard
8. Roberto Duran
9. Archie Moore
10. Bob Fitzsimmons
11. Willie Pep
12. Mickey Walker
13. Ray Leonard
14. Barney Ross
15. Joe Gans
16. Joe Louis
17. Pernell Whitaker
