Default Will downfall of EliteXC help Boxing??

Just heard that EliteXC is done! No more. Their Nov. 8th event is cancelled. These are their final days.

A poll shows that majority of MMA fans feel that the downfall of EliteXC will hurt MMA. So does this mean it will help Boxing?

please discuss..

Well, it can't hurt boxing if it's true. Hopefully some will get into boxing because it is more credible and entertaing to watch. I will say that some will be deterred because some new fans will not like the "politics" of the sanctioning bodies, or watching ridiculous, unnecessary fights made. boxing needs an influx of new fans so let's hope some come to their senses and realize that MMA is just a fad.

Why the hell would Elite Xc's downfall hurt MMA? This makes little sense. If anything its existence was detrimental to MMA because it was a joke of an organization and it never made any real money, and often you hear MMA snubs mocking it because of their poor fighters (Kimbo etc) who were nothing more than sideshow attractions.

Most of these fans will switch to either UFC or Affliction. I seriously doubt it's going to help boxing that much, if at all.

Affliction will fail as well.

..but it won't help boxing either.

Boxing is doing just fine. Top fighters with names are making millions. Boxing as a whole is fine, it's just the heavyweight division in the states that's failing.

Boxing hasn't changed, it's television that has changed. The fact we have multiple 24hr sports channels which has led to the big 3 (NFL,NBA, and MLB) never leaving the limelight. You have 300+ channels on cable now, people have more options.

Competition, and not just from MMA has diminished boxing's status a bit, but it's really in no worse shape now than it was 20 years ago, and 20 years ago I'd argue the sport was even more shady. Go further back and it was worse.

Boxing really doesn't need those to fail for it to rise, boxing is doing fine, I wouldn't consider those competitiors either since this isn't WWF/WCW and nothing close to it.

Hopefully boxing now gets a slot on Network TV like EliteXC did. Gary Shaw should work out a deal and maybe get fighters like Dawson and Angulo mainstream exposure.

Boxing just needs to get rid of so many ppv's but if they could get cbs or some other free network to show boxing it can be a boost for sure. I am boxing 1st but I did watch elitexc so I'm sad to see them go.
