Default BJ Penn's Legal Problems

BJ Penn pleaded no contest to some reduced charges yesterday. He's getting sentenced in December. His lawyer doesn’t expect any jail time.

Man, did this thing drag on for what seemed like an eternity. Wasn’t the original incident around this time in 2005? If it was then that would mean, when sentencing is complete in December, that the whole thing will have taken around two and a half years to reach it's final end.

Is that kind of lag between the incident and final resolution normal?

Fighter Pleads No Contest To Hitting Officer

HONOLULU -- A popular mixed-martial arts fighter on Friday pleaded no contest to reduced charges of allegedly punching a Honolulu police officer.

B.J. Penn was originally charged with assaulting an officer, which is a felony. He pleaded to a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault on Friday instead.

Penn was involved in a large fight outside a Waikiki nightclub in 2005, police said. As an officer broke up the fight, police said Penn punched him in the face.

Penn's attorney said he does not expect his client to receive jail time when he is sentenced in December.

When you actually read up on what happened it doesn't seem like he actually tried to attack the guy, per say. This is backed up by the fact that over two years later he is being allowed to plead out to a misdemeanour.

The whole situation seemed like a cluster **** from day one.

Who was right? Who was wrong? Who knows?

The whole deal has seemed like a cluster **** from day one though.
