Geez who gave a 0-14% vote? Is JP really that much of an unknown? He's fighting for a title in December... Or is the British Casual fan very insulated when it comes to looking at fighters outside of their country?
He's not entertaining enough to warrant casual interest. Yea he's a good fighter but outside the ring he is very plain. I like that in fighters but won't illicit public interest Outside of our own hw I bet only wilder and maybe Briggs are known to casuals.
British casual fans don't know anything about boxing, let alone the global scene. They might have heard is name mentioned on SSN and then google his record before hyping him as a beast. I had casual mates come up to me and insist Joshua's win over Cornish was impressive because Cornish was undefeated. Anyway who cares, without a stellar undercard Joshua's next PPV is going to bomb. Near Xmas time and you expect people to pay for Price, Molina or Parker? Two of those casuals will have no clue about and even a casual can work out that Price has absolutely no chance of winning that fight.
It's nothing personal against Parker but boxing doesn't have the profile that it used to have in Britain. If Tyson Fury had won the heavyweight title in the 1980s instead of 2015 he'd have been the most famous person in the country and got a knighthood or something. Shannon Briggs is much more famous than Parker because he's been over here a lot and is good at promoting himself.
Id say prior to a few weeks ago before he was getting tagged with AJ, id say very few knew who he was. Unless a fighter gets mentioned on sky sports, i dont see how your standard casual would know these names.
Remember most fans won't even know most of our world champions. So how woukd they know about a contender from NZ I bet he's the second coming in NZ but over here he's not known. We have 3 HW of our own that are better.
The links to Joshua would have given his name here in the U.K. a tiny boost but I don't think many casuals would really know who he is.
I'd say if you don't at least make an effort to watch every televised show in your country and every big fight across the world you are a casual. Because if you sporadically watch fights or only the big ones then you are just showing a casual interest in the sport. If you are a football fan you are going to follow every game your team plays otherwise you aren't really a fan. I'd say you'd have to read up on boxing news and at least be up to date with what's been happening to not be classed as a casual.
I'm just shocked that 66% of people voted that only 14% or less know about a top HW who is mandatory to the Ab'ed one, and in Dec having a title shot.
Mate the band itself Is too high. It should be 0 to 5% and we'd still be voting for it. Honestly, our casual fan base in Britain won't have a clue who he is. Boxing here is only in the early stages of recovery.
