Talking to ESPN, Shogun Rua stated that he would like soccer kicks and stomps legalized in the UFC. What's your thoughts? I think its a good idea and it might've made Werdum think twice about flopping on his back every few seconds.
On the flipside, Shogun is the absolute MASTER of stomps and soccer kicks. He'd be 5x better and more dangerous with the use of kicks.
Of course he does. That was a huge part of his arsenal. I know that my opinion on this subject isn't popular with many here, but I just don't think that **** belongs in organized MMA. Knees on the ground and upkicks to downed opponents, on the other hand, should be legalized under the unified rules IMO.
Why shouldn't you be able to soccer kick or stomp? It would be a great counter to that laying on your back bull****.
This. Verbatim. Stomps and soccer kicks to the head, while awesome and a big part of some fighters games just doesn't look good to the general public and has no place in modern MMA. They're also not a big game changer like some want to believe (Shogun/Jones, Overeem/Werdum, neither would have changed with the addition of kicks and stomps), however, knees to the head and upkicks to a downed opponent give guys more offensive options off their back and makes guys think twice about the lazy shoots that slow fights down.
It may not look good but I really don't think it's any more dangerous than driving an elbow into your skull.
it actually is....it makes you think twice about just jumping or falling into your guard and landing a soccer kick is a lot harder than many people think, and if you miss you are usually terribly off balance
