Who probably has the all-time highest "landed" percentage?

    A recent post on Hagler vs Hopkins reminded me of how much I used to love to watch Hagler, and why. It wasn't just his aggressiveness & general skills, it was his uncanny accuracy.

    - But I'm far from the world's greatest boxing fan (in terms of # of fights seen) so I'm wondering: If we had accurate punch-stat numbers for all major fights, going back to the early 1900's, and looked at (say) just percentage of power-shots landed, which fighters would come out on top?

    I'm gonna' start if off by nominating Hagler, even if I'm wrong. (g) And Pacman, I guess. Maybe SRR? Maybe even the pre-jail Tyson?

    I like this concept, based round the ability to not be wasteful, so I'd say money would be on say a RRJ or something who in his prime was very accurate, or perhaps some A* pot shotter who I've prob. never heard of XD.

    Arguello was generally very close to the target, even when he missed. One of the most accurate straight rights I've ever seen.

    Joe Louis never really threw unless he had you lined up perfectly.

    As mentioned, Marvin Hagler never really had much trouble landing.

    Mayweather Jr can be insanely accurate with his punches.

    Michalczewski is another guy not mentioned yet. I don't recall him landing < 50%. Pryor was another highly accurate guy and would continue to throw after missing a shot as well as anyone. The accuracy % of Pryor on his follow up punches after the initial shot were incredible & opponents must have thought the guy had 3 hands in there once Aaron started with those flurries. Donald Curry, especially at welter had some accurate hands. Pretty much the same w/ Wilfredo Gomez at 122.

    The thing is with those highly accurate guys is that they hardly hit air with a swing and miss. They always seem to land on the torso of the other guy even if it was a shoulder or forearm or side of the head. So the opponent is always absorbing. It has to be a very very difficult thing to try and prepare for or to try and cope with during a fight. And an accurate opponent is real bad if a guy gets busted up.

    It is never really talked about as his strong point, but i dont remember seeing Jack Johnson miss too many shots.

    Not "Pre-Jail" Tyson, his accuracy was relatively **** in Bruno I, Douglas & Stewart fights.

    I know that since Compubox started Mayweather has the highest landing percentage.
