atsch NOOOOOOOOOO.... YOU BETTER NOT BIATCH-OUT HAYE!! I SMELL A RAT 8+ DAYS FROM THE FIGHT :fire
Am I wrong though?...I'm not saying go to the extremes like a Cortez or Nady to break up clinches, but constant clinching should result in warnings/point deductions...I don't care if it's Ali or a cab driver...
Nady is the only guy I have seen that is very strict about it. Cortez doesn't allow a lot of ruff house infighting it isn't really clinching he breaks up.
Ok, i'll you give that David Haye was knocked down but Haye was hit when on the ground. Abraham for instence was disqualified for punching a downed opponent.
I don't think your wrong, the clinching in the heavies always sucks. It's not a new problem though with Heavies at all through the years. Tyson fights were the same way, everyone would hold him to keep him from firing off inside, it gets tedious. Chambers tried to do the old pick Wlad up trick, that probably only tired him out more. Steward tells Wlad constantly, if he gets inside put your weight on him and walk him back. Its their tactic and unless Haye is prepared to punish him for it, I see it happening a lot. I'm with you, I hope the ref will not only warn, but actually deduct if it gets excessive. I want to see some action dammit. :rasta:bbb
That would make sense if Wlad actually held opponents that much. The problem is that he doesn't. Wlad doesn't hold nearly as often as his haters like to pretend. It isn't his fault that his opponents can't box with him and have to run in like bar room sluggers. That leads to clinches on BOTH sides. His opponents hold him just as much as he holds them... and neither are anything close to what people act like it is.
I have almost every heavyweight fight on dvd from 1949 on... Mills Lane was a brutal Referee if you liked to hold... :yep he never allowed guys to hold and hit either or hold on to their opponent to catch a few breaths or clear their heads... he always broke them up... and often the guy trying to hold got KTFO :hey Reno, NV has a "Mills Lane Day" This content is protected
Mills Lane broke up Tyson and Holyfield over and over... but a few seconds is all Tyson needed to bite off Holyfields ear
i hate excessive holding myself but i really don't think vlad is that guilty of it. i have seen a lot of guys rush in, most likely because they're scared to stay at his distance, and clinch vlad. at this point, vlad holds back both to tire the other fighter who is invariably smaller than him, and to keep the guy from throwing punches on the inside while holding. it goes on in almost every boxing match. when one guy ties up, the other instinctively grabs back. its the guys that rush in, throw their one or two punches, and then tie up (see hatton) before the other guy can throw that aggravate me...ruiz is an excessive holder. late career holyfield is an excessive holder. for me, vlad doesn't qualify
