It takes great courage to feature Sven ottke in a thread Vic (lol)...I tried that in a thread featuring Hugo Corro and Sven Ottke, and it sank to page 53 faster than a stone in a swimming pool. In this case, though i respect Ottke's abilities more than most in this forum, I would say Collins would outwork him to win a decision. it wouldn't be a pretty fight, but the Irishman would employ his somewhat physical style to great advantage and win a clear, undisputed decision..that is if the fight were held in a neutral sight and not in Germany.

I just don't know and a very interesting match.

A distance bout if there ever was one. The over/under would probably be set at what, 11.5 rounds? I guess I'll go with Ottke to block everything with those pillars he put in front of his body. He sure threw a nice straight right out of that and Collins does get hit in there. That and the Collins right hand to the kidney would probably be the only clean blows landed in the fight.

I'd sure like to see some other fighters through the years at least try and emulate Ottke and his ability to hold those hands up high for an entire fight.

On second thought, the Collins that beat Eubank is going to be a handful to beat for anyone at that weight. He was really on that night, wasn't he? that guy wins a decision over Sven in a toe to toe fight that looks like Chacon-Limon 5. just kidding, more like st Gordon--Berbick.

I cant see Collins beating Ottke. Ottke is underated on this forum. he couldnt crack an egg, but he was a hard guy to find and Collins was pretty ordinary.

It may have turned out to be something like Corro-Antuofermo..sort of a nonfight, with Collins doing enough to win, but Ottke being able to negate much of Steve's best work. It wouldn't have been a pretty fight at all, and I don't think anyone would have wanted a rematch.

Ottke UD. Collins doesn´t have the power to stop him, the skill to outbox him or the workrate to outwork him.

are you seriously suggesting that Collins didn't have the workrate to outwork him?

Yes, I do. Why? Because Ottke was a spoiler who made everybody´s workrate drop, it would be the same here.

In the spirit of being a "spoiler" in a negative sense (that's a good thing, IMO), like my man Jimmy Young, I have to agree with you, and it would take a spectacular effort by the Irishman to win vs a style like Ottke's. The question woulkd be "could he"..I'm beginning to reconsider my call for Collins for this reason.

No, nothing to with that - I've nothing against Ottke or his style but in my opinion Collins had a sufficient work rate to out work him. Collins was good at cutting down and escape route and fighting.. He out worked Eubank twice over 12 rounds to score decision victories, out brawled a brawler like Benn and went the distance with McCallum and Johnson - I don't think work rate was ever an issue with him..
