A guy on the sherdog forum, who himself was a blackbelt said he rolled with both big nog and silva. He said both were pretty technical and smooth, but nogs bjj was way better. He said silva was tricky in that he knew how to use his length well. He compared silva to a decent competition black belt, but not out of this world.
a blackbelt on sherdog does not necessary mean a black belt in real life its merrily to show how many post he has made
I read this the other day: "BJJ black belt" Rashad Evans has NEVER attempted one SINGLE submission in his entire 12-fight UFC career. How can he be a black belt then? I'm really dubious about this.
I also remember reading that he's never even trained in a gi. I don't know if that's true, but if it is his belt is less than worthless, it's almost insulting. There are black belts and then there are black belts. I know a few black belts who don't particularly deserve their belts, especially not based on ability, and most likely not on knowledge either. And it's only going to get worse, as the sport grows more popular there'll be guys handing out belts because they get a taste of the coin they can generate by promising people quick gradings. Gracie Barra got itself a bad reputation in some areas because they were handing out blue belts in 8 months or less. I know a guy who went from blue to brown in less than 2 years, and I know a bunch of guys who shouldn't be blue belts.... but there they are. Meanwhile, 6 years in and I'm not even sniffing a purple yet.
To never even attempt to use it even once though? To me that seems very, very bogus. Brock Lesnar has successfully submitted someone FFS.
