he lost when it counted the most, and was never undisputed champ!

he has nothing to show to qualify as an ATG, aside from a green Gerry Cooney and an Ali with parkinsons.

his best win is shavers I think, he is basically like wlad except he doesnt have a weak chin.
larry holmes is a atg though yes, him dominating the division for years, almost breaking marciano's records and being a h2h good matchup for most heavies in history earns him that spot.

Being undisputed champ is as much to do with politics as ability.
You can only beat whats in front of you.
His record is still mighty impressive.

As i said, you can only beat whats in front of you.We could also argue that had the division been stronger at the time, his record would be even more impressive.

maybe, but he aint no H2H nightmare, he was only 6'3, 215 pounds in his prime, even the old timers can keep up with that.

    he's a hype job

Head to head a prime Larry Holmes is a rough night out for any heavyweight in history. Hell yes he's an ATG, and arguing against that serves to highlight the OP's noob status.

    :deal

If my stats are out please forgive me (Merlot can make you forgetfull) but i'm pretty sure Holmes was unbeaten for 11 ish years, and was in his late 30's before he was beaten.

No! Holmes built his career on green kids, many with under twenty fights and even had to have a gift decisions over a few of the novices....

What do you mean only 6'3''? That's a respectable height for a Heavyweight even by today's standards. Old timers like Frazier and Marciano both tko'd fighters at 6'4'' 245lbs. Holmes went on fighting into his 40's if anything he is a nightmare for any HW head to head. Have you seen footage of him sparring Ali? Holmes was a beast. He wasnt only a good boxer he could bang with the best of them.

Exactly, you said it yourself, he dominated. If he's not an all time great, then who the hell is? :-(

ATG yes hands down. Greatest jab in the history of boxing. Underrated hand speed, Fantastic combination puncher and maybe his greatest asset was his ferocity he carried into the late rds. He was a 15 rd fighter at its finest.

Only issue was his general lack of power. Would match up well against a lot of ATG's.
