The Mandingo Warrior is already in the ring, with a guy who is winless in his last nine bouts (seven straight losses) dating back to 2004.

    Round 1

Hard shots by Kirkland swarming in. Sharpe puts on earmuffs and gets clocked as he stands in. Kirkland starts to rip into him with uppercuts and left hooks. Sharpe is getting his head turned but not badly hurt yet. Kirkland is shouldered into the ropes but keeps throwing hard shots. An uppercut quickly spun around into a follow-up overhand drops Sharpe to a knee. He gets up and trades with Kirkland, who starts to jab to set up straight body shots. Hard punches by Kirkland putting Sharpe on the ropes. Sharpe down again to his knees, and takes most of the count before getting waved off.

Yeah, the guy he fought was pretty soft. There just to pick up his cheque. Tells us nothing about James Kirkland.

Here we go. This is Vera's first action since upsetting Sergio Mora almost five months ago.

Suarez is pushing 40 and has a dead-even record. This has the feel of a stay-busy fight for Vera, to work on some things.

  13. Yeah, a guy who shouldn't even be in the ****ing ring in the first place. Get a ****ing clue.

    Round 1

Vera doesn't seem interested in working on much or letting this go anywhere near the distance. Hard left hooks. Now two-fisted digs to the body. He catches a clinch attempt and paddles Suarez across the back with his right hand. Vera's usually middling power is looking to be entirely too much for Suarez, who is getting bent over in whatever direction he gets hit from. Suarez tries to duck his way to cover, trying to stay inside Vera's punches and up against him. Vera is just stepping back and tagging him with jabs and hard hooks.

    Vera looking good.
