Bataglia, I will watch it again with the sound off but i think you need to score it again and count punches landed not clean shots. Must have been all them shots to the hips that made Sturms bosdy so red eh?
Macklin landed body punches at will, a body punch counts as much as a head shot. Of course Felix landed clearer, he is technically much better and it´s logical, if he picks his shots. Macklin worked much harder and landed also much more.
I thought mackin won. much busier and landed some nice body shots. sturms face was beat up, so whoever said macklin missed most his punches is most likely a bit punchy themselves.
I really hope this bull**** doesn't happen with Haye vs Klitschko. Hopefully one of them will get knocked out, cannot deal with their spastic fans endlessly repeating the same tired arguments ad nauseum for the next 10 years, a la Vitali vs Lewis.
Well, I credit you for doing the same!:good Huck Lebedev was worse for me. I cannot justify that but then again scoring criteias are vague (what is "clean, effective punching" for example and how much does it matter compared to number of shots landed? What is "ring generalship"?). I will rewatch it because it was unusually entertaining for a Sturm fight Sturm is a mystery to me. He showed this fight that he not only has a great left hand but also a cultivated and measured right hand. He hasn't used it that much since DLH. The uppercut regurlarly found it's way home. BUT: 1. Why choose an inside fight like against Gevor? It doesn't suit him. Especially not when you're that inactive and lets the other fighter hit you. 2. He's lazy and complacent, perhaps due to weight drain. He looks big, perhaps he has to move up? Lorenzo, Gevor and now Macklin all outworked him. He cannot trust the judges to always reward he's cleaner punches. It doesn't matter that ost of the shots are catched; some are getting through and that's bad. Sooner or later he will lose, just like Sylvester did. 3. Use the jab more. The left hook to the body he also connets very well with but he only throws it once or twice a round. Martinez would eat him up I feel. He would outwork him, outmove him, even outbox him and eventully knock him out. Before I thought Sturm' jab could bother Martinez but Sergio would find a way around it just like against Dzinziruk. Sturm's body would get punished and Sergio's great right hook around the ear would finish him. As for Macklin; the left hook's great but the jab needs plenty of development. He's careless with his guard when he's tired (he was very tired late on). Sturm's jab was an increasingly effective wepon. Sturm on the other hand was also tired but kept his hands up. I admire Macklin's spirit and he should be proud!
I had it a draw, very close fight, 1st half nearly all Macklin & Sturm rolling up the championship rounds. ****in shame:-(
It was quite impressive from sturm though, he seemed very tired in the middle round then he was able to win most of the later rounds, I hate to say it but he showed heart tonight.
Was not a robbery. It was a close fight but most people felt Sturm won. That said I dont remember any champion in recent history who fought down to his opposition as much as Sturm does.
But sturm is the champion right? The least he should show is heart, as for quality he was poor Macklin was going there as a no hoper according to what most thought, and yet he out worked the champion, sturm was asleep for the first four rounds And he only came to life with about a minute of one round to go and the last three rounds when macklin was tiring. Years ago I felt sorry for sturm when he got robbed against DLH but tonight its macklin getting the feeling he has had his pockets picked
Yeah thats why there should be a rematch, macklin definitely deserves it, one thing we can all agree on for sure is that to get a belt in germany from the champ you need to look very good, it cant be close. I was actually afraid there would be 119-109 type cards in there. I dislike sturm for taking easy fights in germany while avoiding top guys, its basically all business for him, I would love to see him vs sergio martinez but macklin 2 should be next.
I had Macklin after watching it live, but nothing... NOTHING, beats Sven ttkes disgusting performance against Robin Reid. Hey Ref!! He hit me! take a point!!
That's a discredit to Macklin, when someone posted a thread asking how good Macklin was when he was set to fight Winky Wright, I said he was "Very good, a battler" and people laughed at me
Yes you only have to ask robin reid about a decision in germany, but I thought macklin pushed sturm into fighting his kind of fight throughout, and also threw more punches and was the aggressor I personally dont think sturm will want Macklin again, I think sturm was surprised at how active macklin was tonight in a first world title attempt, macklin didnt look intimidated even though he was kept waiting a ridiculous amount of time for sturm to appear and he took sturms biggest shots and kept coming and throwing leather. I think the reason the decision went to Sturm was purely because his management have martinez lined up for big money fight and that would have been destroyed by a macklin decision. But thats just my opinion of course :good Call me cynical
