Why hasn't Sergio Martinez been targeting Bute?

    Sergio wants big fights, but neither Floyd nor Manny is ever going to fight him. Bute fight in Montreal would make him good money. Is Bute really too big for him though?

    Sergio does not have time on his side with already being 36 and relying heavily on athleticism. He may not have the power to KO Bute but seems to me with his recent performances he at least has enough power to keep Bute honest.

    Bute vs Maravilla is the biggest fight he could make this year. Hell with this Darren Barker fight.

    Coz Martinez is a *****... instead of calling out the super six, he called out the midgets at 147 division.

    Bute seems pretty good size for 168. I doubt he can make it comfortably. Besides, I think if you move up to challenge a guy for his title you should do it at the regular weight limit.

    He's no *****. He's just 36 yrs old and wants the biggest money fight. Pac or Mayweather just doesn't seem possible to me so he might as well move up and face the biggest cash cow at 168.

    Martinez has no intention of fighting above 160, then he should also respect pacs decision not to fight above 147 anymore, martinez needs to be more active though, fight atleast 3 times a year and target canelo,chavez,cotto,sturm that is basically his best hope if he has no intention of fighting above 160. he should forget about floyd and pac that wont happen.
    Ow and he isnt a *****, he is a great fighter and the best middleweight that wants a big money fight because he is 36.

    continue to dominate 160 and target the s6 vs bute winner seems smarter to me. I also think he doesnt want to move up because he still has hopes that he could get a big money fight at 154.

    Because he views it to be too much of a risk to go above 160, which is totally understandable. So with that in mind, he shouldn't be too upset when the likes of Cotto, Pac and Mayweather choose not to fight him.

    Maybe he could get Cotto in the ring with him. I don't see Chavez jr. or Canelo's handlers letting them take such a risk anytime soon though. As far as Sturm, would he even leave Germany?

    Martinez knows that targeting Pac or FMJ will get him the biggest paydays. Bute is good but he's relatively unknown w/ the casual fans. Besides, Bute is too big and too dangerous.

    Size only means so much when you're that skilled though. I just don't see any other great options for him for big fights. Sergio has developed serious power at 160. I think he could hang with Bute.

    he's too big for him, too much risk, not enough money. martinez now wants the highest money fights, he doesn't care who it's a against, and will look to fight the easiest fights in between. last i heard he said he expected to fight chavez jr after barker

    sergio is in a tough spot, him getting robbed of his belts everytime, not being a cash cow and not being with gbp or tr means getting the fights he want is very difficult.

    He said himself that he is too small physically for 168 :

    “It’s really a pity in my case because of problems fighting opponents or challenges. I’m not thinking of going up to 168 (pounds) because I’d be too small physically. So, I plan to stay at 160 for the rest of the year and then see what it takes for the future. I believe I’m too small for ’68. I will give too much of an advantage to 168-pounders.”

    Bute started boxing at 175 and today he is a BIG 168. Martinez fought at some point at 147 ! I agree with you, martinez doesnt have a lot of options and he has some serious skills but Bute is not only big, he is well coordinnated too.
