He's a small MW, he should stay away from SMW. Calling out 147ers is just a plan to get a payday. He is 36 lets not forget, he didn't get shine until late in his career and started at a late age to boot. He hasn't got much time left, it's odd to have a prime at this age in the first place. BUT, if he did something like that and was successful in doing so, legacy wise it would be huge, still wouldn't be the payday he's looking for though.

 

If Cotto, Floyd and Manny don't wanna be called out for fights at 154 they shouldn't fight at that weight. It's not rocket science.

What, so you don't think that's a relevant question? Them going back down to their preferred weight and staying there, means nothing to you? Them giving up their light middleweight belts immediately without bothering to defend them and stating they have no intentions of staying at that weight, should be ignored?

 

What I'm saying is, if you win a belt in a division you can't get all precious when someone wants to fight you in that division.

It's why it's different to the Martinez - Bute situation. Martinez has never fought at 168 so other than to hide the fact that they are afraid of him beating Pac and Floyd I don't see why people want him to move up. He's only just moved up to 160.

Even if it's evident that you don't belong in that division and confirm it by dropping the belt and going back down? Throughout history many fighters have cherry-picked a fight in a higher weight-class to grab a quick title or a payday, and then head back to where they belong.

Now if Pac and Floyd continued to stay at 154 and fought a few fighters there, then I'd be joining you in your criticism of them not accepting Sergio's challenge. But the fact is, they haven't. They had just one measly fight there, and that, like I said, was just a cherry pick. They made it clear that once they were done with their respective bouts, they would go back to where they belong, and that's exactly what they've done. They're not light middleweight fighters, and they're not pretending to be - regardless of them having once held a shitty title there.

And if you think about it, Pac has also only just moved up to 147 if, like you say, Sergio has only just moved up to 160. Because he [Sergio] has had the same 4 fights at middleweight that Pac's had at welterweight (if you exclude the Margarito one at 150).

 

I'm not criticising them for not taking the fight, I'm criticising them for using weight as an excuse when they've already fought at that weight before. Why is slow, easy to hit Margarito OK at 154 but Martinez not? We both know why.

I don't care about them not fighting Martinez because they should be fighting each other. It's just weird how their fans seem to hold a grudge against Martinez for wanting to fight them and having the audacity to probably beat them.

What's funny is how the fans react to the greatest injustice ever of Martinez wanting to fight them by suggesting that Martinez move up in weight and fight Bute, completely missing the irony of it all.

 

personally its hard to move up in weight the bigger you are if you start as a welter go no further then 160 168 natural will kill a ex welter
