Fair play to Matt Macklin though. I apologise, I thought he'd lose handily tonight (hey 8 rounds to 4.. I was right!) but he put in a great performance and he won the fight IMO. A paper champion just got handed a paper decision though unfortunately :-(

Yeah he was brilliant tbh, I was worried at one point it would end up like Moore all over again but he lasted the course at a frenetic pace.

My worry he's had a fair few hard fights and hasn't lived the life so to say...can he stay at that level of fighting?. He may of produced his finest hour and never reproduce that sorta display again.

I had two casual fans at My house tonight. We were all on our feet for the decision. That was a fight like something out of Raging Bull! Matt and Joe should be massively proud! They took it to the champ and my friends were exclaiming how Sturm was upstanding after those sickening body shots and how Macklin was upstanding after how many punches he ate. Incredible. Heart of a champion.
After that, my mates are very excited for next weekend indeed. Macklin sold a lot of fights indeed.

Well done to Macklin and Joe Gallagher tonight. Gallagher deserves a lot of credit for getting Mackin in such great shape and the gameplan was excellent.

Macklin is a warrior and he raised his game at world level. He fully deserved to win that fight outright, not just nick the result. But, in Germany he needed to KO Sturm twice to get a result.

He had heart and put on a performance, was a great fight but Sturm had the quality and didnt miss a shot.

Not a robbery but a bit of a poor call.Macklin did all the work and some of the rounds they gave to Sturm must have been very close.I had Matt up by 2,but as always in a fight like that I can respect how others may have gone for the more accurate and timed work of Sturm.I thought when Matt won rounds he won them clearly,Sturm was nicking the ones he won bar maybe the last 2.I honestly thought Macklin had done enough to get it.

You've been listening to Jim Watt too much matey.

You'll be talking about the AAARRRRRRRRRRRRUMMMMM PUNNNNCHEEESSSS that people are throwing next.

Sturm didn't miss a shot. You must be ****ing joking me boy. He didn't land a punch of note in the first half of the fight.

What about the 2nd half? I seen the fight with neutral eyes and Sturm won it just. Macklin was great but he didnt win that fight.

I found Jim`s comments odd at times last night as well.He seemed to suddenly go from saying how well Matt was boxing and shutting Sturm out to"great work from Sturm, really classy"just because a few jabs landed. In the end Jim had the affair closer to the result than I did when it came to the cards but I found his commentry a bit off at times in this one.

Sturm had the better of the second half. 4-2 on my card.

    You said, and I quote,

You said Sturm didn't miss a shot. Bull****. He didn't land a shot in rounds 1-6. He got better in the second half of the fight and got off nice clean shots. There is a massive difference between what you said happend and what actually happend.

Macklin won the first half of the fight clearly and Sturm edged the second half of the fight. It all added up to a Macklin win on my card. If they had have given Sturm a close win then I'd have just about said okay fair enough. 8-4 Sturm, though, I don't think so.

It was closer than how the last judge saw it fair comment but Jim Watt was right in what he was saying. The better quality shots came from Sturm so he didnt have to throw as many, was bang on the button everytime.
Macklin deserves a rematch but i dont think it make much difference. He was lucky not to get koed in that last rd, another 10 secs the ref would have jumped in.

    The last judge?-(

Two judges scored it 116-112 Sturm

That is 8 rounds to 4 to Sturm. Anyone who thinks Sturm had a genuine claim to winning 8 rounds fair play. And they can sa hello to Helen Keller when you go back to school tomorrow too.

If anyone thought Macklin won the first 6rds they need their head examined. No way did he win every rd in the first half. 4 i would say but that was it.
