In spite of the fact that I and nearly everybody felt he lost the fight, I thought he showed tremendous heart. He got up from the first knockdown in his career and came right at Matthysse in round 4. He traded shots with Matthysse in the later rounds of the fight even after tasting his power. Then after taking a beating in rounds 7 and 8 and looking like he was ready to go, he pulls a dominant round 9 out of his ass. It was a good fight and a good showing by both guys, the wrong one just came out with the W.
He showed that he does have heart and courage, but thats as far as his redemption goes. The guy clearly lost the fight and thats what really matters. Matthysse getting totally robbed should be the main focus.
I thought he showed heart which people accused him of looking for a way out. However, I think it raised some questions surrounding his ability and just how far he can go.
Kinda, he showed he has a lot of heart and a good chin. But his accuracy is dreadful, and he just raised even more questions about his abilities as a top level fighter.
People like to dog him for the Bradley fiasco, there is however, a greater dog in Alexander than has been shown. Devon has a big heart, and I'd like to see him fight again. :good
Lucas would have knocked out many a fighters last night. Alexander battled hard. I don't see it happening, but he really needs to drop his trainer.
I'm just really hesitant to give Alexander much credit after a result like that. I know he had nothing to do with the decision and he generally comes across as an alright guy, but that performance still looked nothing like redemption to me. Coming back with a decent round in the ninth after getting his ass kicked is okay, but then he proceeded to lose another clear round in 10; maybe if he had hung in there for a 12 round fight I'd be inclined to think otherwise. Even in the ninth, I felt like it was more a matter of Matthysse letting his foot off the gas than Alexander bouncing back in a big way. Heck, one could argue that the biggest shot of the round was the body blow Matthysse landed with 20 seconds left. I've admittedly only watched the round once, so I could be wrong here, but it just didn't feel like it was a dramatic bounce back the first time through.
The only way he wins is at home he is not in no way a top level fighter maybe in his mind but in reality he's not that good at all he has no power that noise he makes "wo'aha" is a joke but i guess he thinks that gives him more power.
Yes and no. He got the W, although it's controversial. One thing, he proved he's a tough SOB. I thought he was gonna fold in the 8th, most guys would have. He was taking some mean shots to the head & solar plexus. But on the flipside, there are some questions left, and I wanna see what happens when he fights in Vegas or Atlantic City.
In some ways yes and in some ways no. After the Bradley fight his heart was questioned. I think he redeemed himself in that sense last night. However, after two sub-par performances against Koetelnik and Bradley having another controversial decision didn't really redeem him in that sense. In other words, he still hasn't proven to be worth the hype that was put on him (which really isn't his fault anyways).
