GRAND RAPIDS— The State of Michigan unveiled a list of lowest performing schools in the state, and six Grand Rapids Public School buildings are on the list.

They are: Ottawa Hills High School, Union High School(Guy I knew got hospitalized after being beaten up during a dice game here), Alger Middle School, Ford Middle School, Westwood Middle school and Lincoln Middle School.

The district must now choose from one of four plans put forward by the state to improve student achievement. The district says it will use a "transformational model" for the high schools, which includes teach development and replacing the principal among other changes. For the middle schools, it will use the "turnaround model," which includes replacing the principal and at least 50% of the school's staff.

If the state accepts the district's plan, GRPS will be eligible for up to $2-million per building.
