Wow the 2 shots to the back of the head didn't need to happen...Kirby fell into the ropes and Meehan had time....not saying it would change anything...Meehan looked great

kirby should be personally thanking the ref - if it went any longer, he was gonna get destroyed...

you maybe right but if he hit the deck took his time to regain his senses he could of recovered.watch rounds 3 and 4 of Leapai-Walker. Alex was hurt way more than Kirby and came back strong.

It's a different story in the heat of battle, the first of the 2 shots was back of the head but the second shot landed flush where the upper jaw meets the ear, good shot!!

Meehan looked like a beast on a mission, looking forward to his next appearance :good

But that's the thi ng SM - he didn't hit the deck he was just standing there copping shots and not in a position to defend himself. He really gave the ref no option

Sometimes a persons ego gets in the way, if Kirby takes a knee has a little while to settle then gets back into it he goes further in the fight, similar to Zab when hit by KT he should have stayed down regained his senses and then got up at count of 9 and continue fight with his ego he got up too quick and did his now famous dance

suppose you're right.better to stop a fight 1 punch too early than 1 punch too late.

That was a slip - Zab clearly said so at the time....

People can argue all they like about the Meehan / Kirby stoppage. But if the referee hadn't stopped it when he did we might be checking here for updates on Michael Kirby's condition in hospital.

The referee is there to protect the fighter from their greatest enemy - themself: too often the fighter is far too brave for their own good and personally I would rarely if ever question a ref's stoppage as he is the one closest to the action.
It is never a good look when a fighter gives his back to his opponent and could/should be taken as a sign of" No Mas". No-one is braver and tougher than the Iron Rhino and I like and admire the guy for what he has achieved but he put himself in a position for the shot to land on the back of the head because he turned his back on Meehan, probably because he was out on his feet.
You are right Stiffy better one too early than one too late and I certainlt wouldn't want to be looking in the relatives eye trying to explain why their loved one is seriously hurt...

Michael Kirby is all courage. He's done the game a great service so far. It's nice to see the game return the same service via its DUTY of CARE, just as it'll be nice to see Kirby fight again soon; with no lasting problems from last weeks bout.

anyway it will only fire kirby up more to prove he can bounce back .

as they say, its how u respond to the disapointing losses that show what u r made of.
