This piece has more lies, and inaccuracies in it than even some of your posts.

Both Jeffries v Finnegan ,and Sullivan v Gouriff were shorter defences than the Burns fight ,the Ali v Liston Lewiston debacle was counted as shorter too, though the time is debatable.


The King made no public statement concerning Johnson .To do so would have been unthinkable.

Lord Lonsdale did NOT offer Burns $5000 to fight Johnson or any other amount , he was the president of the NSC,any purse offers would have come from Peggy Bettinson the Chairman ,and promoter for the club,and did so.

Jim Coffroth and Tex Rickard were first to offer to put on the fight ,but it fell through.
Bettinson offered Johnson and Sam Fitzpatrick his manager $ 12,500, they accepted
Fitzpatrick offered to put up $5,000 as a side bet.


Burns refused the offer.

The fight between Burns and Johnson was not settled in the UK , in fact it only became a reality because the US fleet set sail for Australia,McIntosh calculated that all those sailors would want to see the fight and began plans to put it on.

Mcintosh put on ,Burns / Squires, and Burns/ Lang for the title the purse for the two fights was $20,000 and he refereed the Lang fight ,[another inaccuracy by Roberts].
McIntosh cleared $50,000 from the two fights which gave him the $$$ for Burns $30,000 purse.

Far from a fight between Johnson and Burns allready being agreed, Johnson had signed ,[or rather Fitzpatrick had] for a $5,000 fight with Sam Langford in London in the NSC. Bettinson even helped Johnson by agreeing to delay the fight till after he had met Burns,figuring the Langford Johnson fight would then be for the title.

Bettinson went so far as to lend the broke Fitzpatrick and Johnson their passage to Australia to try and force the issue.McIntosh finally got Burns signature on paper and wired Johnson an offer of $5,000 for a title challenge, Johnson had not only gone round the world once in chasing Burns ,he did it twice .

McIntosh had refereed the Burns Lang heavyweight title fight only 3 months before the Burns Johnson one .Roberts is full of ****.

Burns made no reference to any illness , before or after the fight . Blow by blow acounts of the Burns Johnson fight show it was a onesided slaughter.

Johnson sustained NO DAMAGE to his ribs AT ALL, in fact he went out to a party that night, he, later in the week had a stomach upset which was probably caused by excess indulgence.

Johnson dropped Burns in the first round with a right uppercut as Burns came in..
Burns was the first to start punching in the clinches.
Nothing wrong with that ,as film of the round shows McIntosh had not called for the men to break.

Johnson dropped Burns with the same punch in the second round, which seems to have escaped Roberts


Johnson tiring that's a laugh footage shows Johnson disdainfully allowing Burns to hit his body as he grins at spectators over Burns shoulder, Roberts is as big a fool as you are.
Far from breaking Johnson's ribs, Johnson deliberatedly exposed his body to Burns punches saying" hit me here Tommy"," now here". all the while grinning at Burns. " You punch like a woman Tommy".
