    This, well said

All the the criticism about 'your not a great trainer youve not trained a world champion' bollox should have been put to bed after saturday.

Gameplan was spot on, Macklin won that fight no doubt, and no1 gave him a chance before the fight, he fought better then most people thought he was capable of and alot of that was down to being brilliantly prepared for it.!!!

Love him or hate him, Joe Gallagher is a quality trainer

In the words of the great Napoleon "That may be".....but I still think "Shameless" every time that I see him.

Macklin did perform out of his skin on Saturday against a fighter who was obviously looking beyond him to the next fight...he won't underestimate him in any rematch.

Both Macklin and Gallaghers stock rose from that performance.

That's my point. I picked Strum to win comfortably as I thought he was at a higher level. But, he proved me wrong and I was delighted to see it. You have to credit the trainer for the camp he put Macklin through as there is no way he could have keep that pace up without a great camp, plus the tactics. But, the fighter has to go out and do the business and Macklin really exceeded my expectations. He also showed a lot of class post fight too. I hope he gets the rematch and I think he will win it if he does.

Gallaghers fighters all fight the same way. it works at domestic level but at world level they will always get found out.

Not sure thats fair yet Rob. He's got fighters that suit fighting that way. He hasn't really got a great boxer with athletic gifts in his table. Macklin can only fight that way at the top level, he can't outbox people. Murray's always been that way, thats just the way he is. Thats the way thats worked best for Crolla also, when he boxed early in his career he lost to Al Hamidi.

I though Macklin done enough to get the decision, he was busier throughout the fight and looked to me like he landed alot more punches, tactics seemed pretty much spot on.

Sturm perhpas landed heavier / accurate punches but alot less.

:lol: I didnt even think about that

Whatever your views on Joe G his fighters come in in GREAT condition macklin, crolla, joe murray, all of them in recent fights fought for the full 3 minutes for every round.

i thought john murray looked out of sorts in his last fight, slow and drained. he didn't look like he could fight for the full 3 minutes of every round

I missed last John Murray fight so i cant comment on that but it must be hard for fighters to get motivated for a fight thats a step back like that. Also im of the opinion that everyone has off fights and are allowed a poor performance every now and then. Also, if everyone else coming out of gallaghers gym has great conditioning and John doesnt i think thats more a statement about him than his fighter. Lets see how he turns up for the Mitchell fight and see if it was a one off or if there is some issue in him coming down to weight etc.

For the record i dont find john murray very entertaining to watch or have particularly high hopes for him.

Come off it Palmer! Who exactly has been "found out"?

Gallaghers tactics for the Sturm were 100% bang on and maximised Macklins chances of a win in Germany. Pretty much faultless.
