Big George was a bad man indeed, but just for a reminder... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKVYOZOJLqo[/ame] Sorry...just a gratuitous tribute to my man Jimmy Young..lol..
Quality In that Legendary Fights series, Moorer talked about how Teddy hated how Foreman was such a con fooling the public of this new perception based on his new jolly/personable act. I guess he wanted to expose that but it didn't quite work out as planned. I know Teddy tries to act like a tough guy, but was/is he really a good street-fighter?
..I guess he should of just stood there scared out of his mind like Norton and just let Foreman destroy him..then he would have gotten the average fight fan's respect..
Atlas is a nut. We were at the Botha Moorer press conference, and Teddy Atlas didnt like what a journalist said and socked the guy. The two guys were rolling around on the floor fighting each other.
Yes, Teddy can fight well. He used to box amateur and most of the scars on his head came from knives, bottles, and I think even a tire iron. Teddy obviously knows how to fight, and from what I've seen when he's training he also has pretty quick hands. [yt]oP5AIHEkZSQ[/yt] No actual fighting is shown, but it at least shows that Teddy isn't just some guy acting tough for the cameras.
Any type of insult or something he didnt like would set him off. No they broke it up pretty quickly, but the guy is nuts.
That's the moment ... George really talked back the mob and it was real anarchy breaking out ... I remember Lampley getting back on the air fifteen minutes later from a safe spot up in the Garden's rafters praising Foreman for basically physically saving their lives. He was really shook up. George went from burger salesman to George of the Fifth Ward awfully fast ...
Man! His Wiki biography is withering! "Atlas enjoyed his only real success as a head trainer with Michael Moorer," etc... All I know about his broadcasting career is that I was surfing channels one day, and momentarily came across a broadcast of his when my father and brothers happened to be in the room. They all instantly commented on what a lousy voice he had, without seeing him or having any idea who he was. (They'd only read about him in the sports pages.) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teddy_Atlas
George defo doesnt seem like a bully type guy, i think the guy was a genuine bad ass mofo, Normally the cool, friendly guys tend to be the real dangerous ones (deep down). Tyson is a another one, with his little lispy voice and him trying to come across as eloquent (Deep down, u know hes a pyscho) I know Liston was also a bad ass mofo.
