Tyson would have come in with a gameplan, and would not have taken the sustained punishment he did. He would work the body and set up combinations, and Buster himself would mentally quit himself before long. Buster did take some good punches and got up from that late knockdown, but I don't think he can mentally stand up to a Tyson that consistently lands on the body.

Mike was ferocious in June of 1988, but he started to take things a little for granted by that point. I remember Tony Tubbs in Japan in I think March. Mike was getting hit with punches which he wouldn't have been hit with before. He scored a 2nd round knockout, but he was a little off. Was it a second round knockout? or 3rd? I think second. Funny how time is making my memory fade. I remember watching it, the crowd seemed so quiet. I think Mike still wins by knockout, but it might be hard if he doesn't get Douglas out of there fast.

    "If"

Douglas beat the **** out of a prime Tyson and Douglas was nothing special.

I love the Tyson nuthuggers, they have no sense of the sport at all, and they live in a dream that only the youngest ******ed child could understand.

    Mint XPERT-Post m8. :thumbsup

When Big Bus Douglas got up in Round 8 from Tyson's only haymaker what landed clean in teh whole fight, teh mentally weak spineless bully Tinfoil Tinkerbell Tyson caved in mentally cos he knew Douglas had way too much HEART for him to bully, so he knew he could not win ever. In Round 9, Tinfoil Tyson GAVE-UP trying to win cos he had caved in mentally, so Douglas made him his *****!! 1 round later And Bus Douglas was celebrating like he won teh lottery And Tyson was hugging tightly onto his best m8 Super Ghetto Snowell like a scared And confused kid who got beaten-up And his lunch money stolen. :rofl:rofl:rofl

I thought Tyson looked great against Tubbs. Tubbs was a very talented fighter with quick hands and feet, and by the second Tyson had closed the gap and had Tubbs fighting his fight. Tyson showed good use of the jab and threw some really nice combinations in that fight. I think one of Tyson's better performances.

he was a little more relaxed and he didn't take the defenses as seriously I thought, but yeah he looked good. His power was good. Robin Givens and Ruth Roper (I think I remembered her name correctly) really took him away from boxing. I remember he said after Spinks he was thinking he might not fight again.

Yeah its true, in his autobiography he stated he doesnt care what Don king thinks and hes is retiring after Spinks.

    Back to the thread

I think Tyson wins this by Decison or Kos Douglas late.

Douglas and Tucker were similar type fighters, same level of fighters.

Tyson at his best, went 12 with Tucker.
At his worst he dropped Douglas who only survived because the bell went.

I see a long fight, where Douglas would cave in when he realises Tysons here to do business.

If Tyson at his worse didnt "cave in" against Douglas (As someone stated earlier)....why would Tyson cave in at his peak? With Kevin Rooney?

I agree, its my favourite fight because of how good Tubbs was and how Tyson really destroyed him. He wore Tubbs down with those uppercuts.

I was arguing with someone on another thread who said Chris Byrd would give Tyson problems even in his prime, i mentioned the Tubbs fight and he disagreed and said Byrd is more like Tills?

Slick fighters like James Toney, Chris Byrd would not do too well standing in front of Tyson.

    IMO

Tyson would have kayoed Buster by round five. That Tyson would've been rough for any heavyweight in history.

Exactly. Tokyo Douglas is no better than a prime Tucker(IMO) and Rooney would be the difference maker in Mike's Camp/Corner.

Douglas was pretty damn special. that's pretty easy to see. clearly you are the one with no knowledge of the sport

I agree, Douglas was Prime against Tucker in '87, i had Tucker out-boxing Douglas 86-85 when he busted Buster in the 10th.

And like mentioned before a prime Douglas got stopped by a prime Tucker and I had Tucker winning the fight up until the stoppage. Tubbs was a better boxer and had quicker hands than Douglas did(Tokoyo Douglas or any Douglas before that) and Tyson mopped the floor with him. And I like how one poster called Micheal Spinks an overrated fighter. Well I hate to say it but Micheal Spinks was also better than a prime Buster Douglas. He beat an all time great in Larry Holmes who also was better than Buster Douglas and he would of done the same to Douglas if they fought.
