Devon Alexander is moving up from 140 to 147lb for future fights!!

I highly doubt that. Alexander is not nearly that good.

 

This is 100% on the money. The success of his career from here on out will be whether or not he gets a trainer that will tell him what he needs to work on and fix everything that is currently broken. Cunningham wont cut it anymore. He needs to be retooled in a big way.

Steward would teach him how to properly use his jab. I've always noticed that Devon just flicks jabs out there aimlessly for the most part. They're quick and flashy, but he needs to step off the back foot into them.

As far as Paulie-Alexander goes, I like Devon. Improvements or not.

 

Why not?? 147 is a much easier playground than 140.. You've got the two best fighters in the world there and besides that, a whole lotta nothing.. You can beat one decent fighter there and will be immediately in line for a huge payday in Pac or Floyd... **** keep getting beat up by Kotelnik, Bradley, Matthyse.. Or move up and play your hand in the lotto.. **** Ortiz just hit gold, why can't Alexander??

 

Yeah but Ortiz is just flat out better than Alexander (imo).

Second, I read an interview where he said he was struggling to make 140.

So much hate for a guy who has been putting himself in tough fights and not going for easy tune-ups. He went in there with a strong lion and even stood toe to toe with Matthysse at times. I'm not saying we should hail Devon as a super elite but...c'mon. The kid seems humble and is making small but real progress after his shameful performance against Bradley.

As for Devon moving up to 147...good luck with that. Maybe he can make a Vic Ortiz-like transition. Maybe not. At this point I rate Devon as a B or B- level fighter.

 

Yea based of their last fight, I would definitely agree. But if you compare both of their last fights at 140 I'd say it's pretty close.. Devon needs a lot of help right now. But the truth is he's taken on some very good competition at 140.. 147 would give him the opportunity to not have to take on beast after beast.. Theres only two guys up there, even though those guys are the best in any division.. But would you rather lose to Matthyse in a rematch or lose to Pac or Floyd for about 5-10 times as much money..

 

It seems that some posters feel like Ortiz is some punk who didn't want it at 140 anymore, or that he is scared of guys at 140, and moved up to fight a softy in Berto lmao. Fans let that coward **** fly from their mouths...and wonder why their shabby ass opinion is exlaxed on.

 

More like couldn't cut it at 140 anymore.. The guy went life and death the last 6 rounds against Peterson, he isn't even top 5 of the division.. Hell I'll evebn buy it that he was draining at 140 and thats why he looked average at the weight.. but there is no way in hell he was ever going to be the best at 140deal

Still though I would say Alexander needs to earn a shot at Mayweather or Pac, instead of just hoping to move up and cash in on a fight with one. Frankly he's not in their league, and I doubt he ever will be. Hell I think Berto beats him up pretty good.

 

Oh yea I definitely agree.. But like it or not HBO has built Alexander into a name.. The thing is he can get a title shot soon, and be in the top 5 almost instantly at 147.. Sure I can see Berto or Ortiz beating him but I think he has an equal chance of beating them.. I look at Berto as a very similar built up name as Alexander.. I'd really like to see Berto-Alexander..
