Devon Alexander is moving up from 140 to 147lb for future fights!!

He's not at 140 anymore. He just beat a tough ww for a title at 147. Ortiz has nothing to be ashamed of at how he fought at 140...nothing. Whether fans think he couldn't cut it, didn't want it...he is a professional who is fighting on win or lose. He's being belittled because Floyd is fighting him. Smfh.

 

him and paulie should just stand in the middle of the ring and trade head shot for head shot untill one falls over from exhaustion.

No one said Ortiz should be ashamed, why he's wanted to fight tough opposition and that's really all you can ask.. But theres no way you can try and tell me Ortiz had some HOF career at 140, he just wasn't at the top of the heap..

Berto was never really proven, just look at the common opponent of Alexander and Berto in Urango.. I think Alexander was much more impressive in that fight, not to mention he fought him at his more natural fighting weight..

 

Ortiz was used as an example of how sometimes moving up a division can help physically. Posters are saying 140 is tough and that Ortiz couldn't cut it, moved up...and fought a weak champ at 147 in Berto and beat him.

Alexander may feel better at 147 as he's been struggling to make 140. These guys deserve a lil more credit for what they do whether they stay in a division or move up. Some of you posters think you're saying the right thing, and it reads like ****.

The fact is 147 is a much weaker division than 140... You've got two great fighters there, and then a whole lot of nothing.. The division ahs been cleaned up and everyone has moved on or got stepped on..

I don't understand what you're getting at.. These guys get plenty of credit, but when you talk about these guys you need to be able to be objective about what they've done, what they can do, and what is still unproven.. Berto was unproven and never beat an active champion in his career.. He was in a war with Collazo, which deserved a rematch that never came.. His biggest win to date was Quintana.. yes Berto was a weak champion..

Your opinion isn't fact dun. Berto wasn't unproven, he was flawed. Beating Berto is a good win in my eyes for Ortiz. So what he was in a war with Collazo. So was Hatton and Shane Mosley and all 3 won.

Why are we even talking about Ortiz anyway?

The topic was Alexander moving to 147. Ortiz was an example of going from 140 to :blood147...that's it. Now Ortiz is being scrutinized in a thread that talks about Alexander moving up.

Well we'll disagree.. Yea Berto is still a good win, and it's easily Ortiz biggest win to date..

It's a good move for Alezander to move up, he's got the size to be able to still compete there.. Hopefully the weight will help him out some, but if he doesn't learn how to relax, it's not gonna matter.. he can stay relevant at 147 where at 140 he was likely going to be pushed to the side for better fighters.

Berto and Ortiz ain't beating the **** out of no one but each other.. Alexander has been rocked but he's also shown the ability to fight on.. His skill level is right on pars with either of those guys, and he's in the same exact league with them if you're honest with yourself...
