Walking around at 165???!!!! He has a very big frame... has he been starving himself???I would expect him to weigh 180 in between training camps.Do you know whether he has hired a fitness coach?
Yeah, I'm telling you the man is dead serious, he's been training for about 8 months...he is going to make some serious noise in the MW division.
Yeah, he won't be fighting anyone great his first fight back but, considering Showtime is looking to televise the fight it will probably be someone somewhat decent and not some guy out of a bar.
With the way he was getting finished off late in fights, I hoped he would have stayed retired. If the keeps boxing much longer he could wind up just like Meldrick Taylor, and that would be a damn shame.
If Taylor is anything like his last few fights then Martinez will KO him... We'll have to see what the time away from the ring has done for him, hopefully he's stayed in shape and will be close to his old form... But other than Martinez, I think he can have success with the other middleweights...
My how times have changed I remember during his MW title reign ESB was littered with idiots who did nothing but **** on Jermain. Zackman and Amsterdam were the leaders of that brigade I'm glad people are starting to recognize him the for the warrior that he is.Dude took on all comers
If they met right now it would clearly be a mismatch but there are a few things to consider if they ever met. I'd assume a potential Taylor-Martinez fight would be a year or so away. We don't know how much Taylor has left but if the layoff helped him and he's close to his old form than he's a handful for Martinez. Also, Martnez would be 37 by then and has a lot of rounds on him. For a guy who relies on speed and athleticism the way he does its not inconcievable that he could be in decline a year from now. He's on top of the world now but he's getting up there in years and that could play a factor in any of Martinez's fights from here on out. Of course, Taylor could come back and look bad and strongly consider retiring. But, I'm interested in how he looks after a fight or two and won't write him off until then.
Hating on Taylor is so 2006. Grow up. Yeah, yeah - HBO oversold him and he never did deliver on the promise as a legacy-chasing ATG middleweight champion with an endless reign of take-all-comers terror after the wins over BHop. Oh well. That was boxing aeons ago. Let's move on.
