Something about this came up yesterday, thus inspiring this thread. A 28 year old Norton fights Buster Mathis for the vacant WBC title in 1968,then follows Frazier's route from there.

He might get past Manuel Ramos in the next fight, but I think Bonavena beats him.

Bonavena did n't really possess the punch to freeze Ken up. Would be a good rough fight, though. Norton on points.

Bonavena, who twice decked Frazier, would have put Kenny on his rump after finding his chin for sure.

  6. HAH! 4 a Jimmy-Young,
NutHugger u sure overrate tht crude slugger in Bonavena ! :****:smh

Lemme tell ya sumthin m8 , since Young never fought Bonavena, u dont need to overrate the chump . He was a good strong little **** 4 his day , but nothing more .

Norton wus stronger, faster, had tht jab , power , and skillz 2 keep Bonavena off . I highly doubt Bonavena wud have the pop ,
    to srsly hurt Norton .

I mean , lets face sum facts here . FRAZIER WAS GREEN AGAINST BONAVENA BUT MUST OF 1 TIME WAS 1 **** ANYWAY ,
KENNY PROTECTED HIS CHIN V. WELL

I think Norton would have gone on to beat Ramos by quick kayo, followed by a very hard fought, late round stoppage of Quarry. I'd pick Norton over Bonavena, probably by decision. Norton would have stopped Ellis late or won a wide UD, and he would have kayoed Foster quickly.

The Ali of 1971 would have decisioned Norton in a tough fight. Of course, in 1973 Norton would be stopped in two rounds by Foreman.

considering his ability to give ali stylistic hell i'd favour norton all the way until foreman truth be told. infact the career would look almost identical IMO

  9. m8 he wud not beat ali of 71 as much as i hate clay

Norton arguably beat Ali 3 times, but Ali wasn't at his best for any of them, the Ali of Fight of the Century beats Norton in a close encounter. Norton beats Bonavena (I know he can punch but I think this is a puncher is too sophisticated for), Quarry, Ellis, Foster

  11. Norton does not beat Quarry m8 . Quarry ,
    too tough, hits 2 hard , n just 2 gud . facts .

Norton did not beat Ali in their last 2 fights m8

    Ellis outboxes his ass

well we're assuming that it is a prime norton here aren't we, not the actual 1971 version of norton but the version of norton who did beat ali and break his jaw, vs the version of ali that won on cuts and the 3 kd rul against quarry and bonava.

obviously we'll never know but i think norton in his prime beats fotc ali.

  13. Ali was 2 sharp 4 Norton ! 2 Good! Ali in Norton I was not as good as Ali in fotc

In his second fight with Norton,Ali was as good as he was in the Fight of the Century. Maybe a little better.
