Lennox Lewis states why he didn't give Vlitali Klitschko a rematch.

If ever a fight had to be stopped on cuts, it was this.
I would have liked to see a rematch as these are two great HWs, but there was no real need for it. At the end of the day, this was a pretty clear win for Lennox Lewis and I didn't see any controversy in it.

And I don't care if Lennox was tired and would've been KOed in the next round or whatever, all of that is just speculation. Yeah, Vitali was ahead on points and maybe he would have stopped Lewis or win on points, or maybe not... it's just speculation. If anything, Lennox was gaining momentum.

Lennox forced the stoppage by doing so much damage to his opponent that he couldn't continue. A true TKO victory. Deal with it.

Fact is: Vitali had a great opportunity to beat Lennox. Lewis was there for the taking. But Vitali simply blew it. He didn't deserve another great opportunity like that.

It would have been irresponsible to let Vitali continue - maybe he would have lost part of his eye-sight and his good career after the Lewis fight would never happened - is it that what his fans want?

 

Lenox goT beaten on scorecards / punchstats / ring generalship by a green inexperienced underprepared klit and lenox escaped by getting a lucky break.
Then retired after promising prematch.

Klit did u more than beat Lewis, he retired him.

 

Scorecards only count when there isn't a stoppage. There was a legit stoppage and a legit TKO win for Lewis. What may or may not have happened in the 7th is up for discussion, as is some speculation about why Lewis didn't grant a rematch, but the fight itself? No controversy, no fix, no bull****... Lennox Lewis TKO win over Vitali Klitschko in the 6th round. End of.

Personally, I would have preferred it if Lewis had said "I'm getting old. If Vitali arrived a couple of years sooner I'd rematch him but I'm pretty much done now and I'm not sure I've got enough left against a top fighter like him. Good luck to him but I'm off to count my money and **** a beauty queen."

Pretty much agree on all the points here. At the end of the day, the stoppage was legit as Vitalis eye was looking very bad. Its easier for so-called "Klichkho fans" to want him to continue, but you are not in the ring with a monster puncher like Lewis. Even though Lewis was tiring as he went on, he was regularly connecting with some vicous shots. That uppercut on Vitali was frightening.

At the end of the day, Vitali went on to become HW champion and have a distinguished career. Say if he sustained permanent damage to his eye, would you be happy with that?

I think we all know why the rematch didn't happen. Lewis was at the end of his career and didn't fancy a potentially, really tough fight with Vitali. I think its Lewis's reaction post fight that has peeved people more than anything. If he was honest then people would just let it go.....

The lewis sack swingers act as if lewis actually KO d vitaly when they fought on paper it seems that way and that's what they cling to. The fight tells a different story.
Lets just pretend this week Haye smashes wlad in the first and second round and has him stumbling all over the place and beats him on the cards but in the 6 th round they stop the fight because wlad somehow managed to cut haye. Haye gets upset and asks for a rematch while the crowd cheers him and boos wlad. Wlad agrees and then instead retires. Would that be OK? would it? Dont say lennox was too old and had proven everything blah blah blah. Wlad is 35 now and lennox was only 37 vitaly is 39 for ****s sake. There was no ****ing excuse for the rematch not to happen stop with the ball licking LEWIS ducked the rematch. THE END.
