(Video) Steve Cunningham: David Haye's a ducker

Cunningham is now a sparring partner whilst Haye is the main event. Says it all.

 

This has been gone over many a time cunningham was quiet as a mouse until Haye announced stepping up to heavy.

 

The Brits may think this was a great victory but everyone else knows Haye barely eeaked out a victory over one of the worst title holders in recent memory. If he fights Wlad the way he fought Valuev, we are in for a very boring but lopsided Wlad win.

Agreed. But if that's the case, then its certainly inconsistent with the claim that Haye was "the man" and that "he cleaned out the CW" as Brits are so fond of saying.

 

You can accuse almost anyone of ducking. Roy Jones still gets trashed over Michalczewski. Hell, even Leonard, who has one of the best records in the history of the sport (wins over Hearns, Duran, Hagler, Benitez) gets accused of ducking Aaron Pryor. We can play this game all day.

Haye didn't fight Cunningham, but to be honest, who really cares at this point? He's in against a genuinely dangerous and accomplished man on Saturday (by far the best he's ever come across), so I'm not about to start criticising him for his opponents. I've never seen Cunningham fight, but is he as good, pound-for-pound, as Wlad? If not, then I don't think it's really a big deal at all.

 

well...he beat the wbc, wba & wbo champions...and he beat the ring champion & the lineal champion...& the only reason he didn't get the ibf after beating mormeck was a bull**** political decision to strip bell of that particular trinket.

haye was definitely "the man" at cw. don't deny it. you'll look foolish. whether he "cleaned out" the division is far more debateable.

I am not saying its a great victory......I reckon Hayes win over Mormeck was more impressive and after knocking out the over rated Macranelli Haye moved on.

He didn`t need Cunningham and lets be honest here Haye would probably have beaten Cunningham anyways.

Haye is now fighting the majoritys number one heavyweight so how the hell can he be a ducker? I think you should get over it and move on like Haye has.................now close the ****ing door as you are boring.

 

I' don't see how someone can step up to HW with a long term goal of taking on the Klitchko's, but is to afraid to fight........ Steve Cunnigham? He should be more scared or Richie Cunningham

I think it was a choice (at the time) between Cunningham & a shot at Vitali.

Haye is obviously in this purely for the money, why else would he have planned retirement at 31?
Why run from Valuev if not to take the safest route to his big payday fight?
Why fake an injury (please don't try to tell me that was for real) & later go for the (apparent at the time) weaker brother, if he wanted real glory? He just wants endorsements & some fantasy Hollywood career.

-So why fight a really GOOD cruiserweight, for low money, and risk losing his Klitschko retirement fund? Isn't it obvious?

 

Cunningham presents a different kind of challenge. He is much better than Haye technically and is just as fast. It just would have been an interesting fight to see, if for no other reason than to compare his performance to Adamek's (since Haye - Adamek is unlikely to happen due to Haye's reticence) If Haye loses to Wlad badly, his resume will look pretty thin to substantiate all the hype and Haye's fans will wish he faced Cunningham when he had the chance.

 

Stop it now as you are embarrassing yourself.

 

I wouldn't go THAT far, but it certainly would have been a good match up, with either fighter having a decent chance.
