David Haye Shakes Camp Klitschko With Allegation of Steward Betrayal

This allegation has more of an air of legitimacy than some of Haye’s other claims, because Steward has been very lavish with his praise of Haye in the past. Also, there may not be any love lost between Steward and Vitali Klitschko. As shown in the recent Klitschko documentary, the elder Klitschko brother resented Steward replacing Sdunek as Wladimir’s trainer after the younger Klitschko’s career went off the rails, and didn’t think much of Steward’s methods, at least initially. More recently, Vitali told Steward to “shut up” when the trainer was badgering his brother in the corner during his victory over Eddie Chambers.

In press interviews of late, Steward, who had previously been sky high in his praise of Wladimir, has been noticeably less enthused, making sure that he always name-checks Lennox Lewis as his best heavyweight, while constantly running down the current heavyweight division and also apologetically mentioning some of Wladimir’s less than gripping performances. This suggests that all may not be totally hunky dory in camp Klitschko as the Haye fight nears.

Thanks for the info! I had a feeling Steward was stabbing Wladimir in the back...

He definitely has been talking down Wlad lately, and I know Vitali doesn't like him. Manny is looking out for Manny, not Wlad.

I don't know about it. Obviously its not a secret there is no love loss between Steward and Vitali.

Vitali says in the Klitschko doc that he thought Steward was incompetent when he first started training Wlad, that he was praising Wlad when he was making mistakes, etc. In other words, just flattering Wlad so he could keep the job.

I remember when he told Steward to "shut up" during the Chambers fight. Manny shut up.

I agree! There is something about Steward that seems disingenuous(sp). Camp Klitschko may have a serpent in their Garden of Eden...

I think it is funny that Vitali thinks he knows more about boxing and training than Manny, when he is technically flawed and only gets by on his toughness and awkwardness coupled with a weak division.

I get the impression that the Klits are not that nice or agreeable in real life as some make them out to be. If Wlad loses, Steward is gonna get all the blame and would be most likely gone. There needs to be a change in the division and I hope Haye wins.

It is obvious to me that Vitaly is not crazy about the guy.

David Haye is playing more mind games than Alex Ferguson.

Maybe Steward is aiming to join Haye's crew.

I'd not be suprised to see Steward move on to someone else, and Wlad get some other known trainer. I doubt he'd go back to Sdunek, at this point.

Regardless, Haye is going to get bulldozed on Saturday.

Steward has yet to do/say anything to Wlad yet that I don't agree with. I think Vitali is just pissed that an outsider came in and started making changes. Obviously these changes turned out to be for the better and Wlad has been the most sucessful he's ever been when Steward was brought in. I don't think it's a coincidence.
