An inshape focus Jimmy Young beats atleast half of every HW champ. Young had a style that would give just about any Hw promblems

 

See, I think this is way over the top. You can nuthug Young but keep it on the level. Be real. Young doesn't beat half of the heavyweight champions ever. In the end I don't know if he truly had the fire and desire to go to the top and stay there. He probably proved his worth against Foreman, Norton, and Lyle but these guys were stylistically good for Young to fight and look good against. I would like to see him fight a quicker guy like Terrell or Williams just because these guys could pose stylistic problems, not because they would beat him or because they are better.

R.I.P. Jimmy Young. You must have been at least pretty good for all of us to still be talking about you 30 years later. But I can't think of anything else to say about the Mystery Man.

Nevertheless, Young beat Foreman, humid, hot temperature or no (Young, like Maxim in his fight with SRR..didn't have his own portable AC in the ring with him)...and he would have beaten George again in the most even, temperate conditions in a rematch, and by a wider margin, as in Lyle II. Young beat Ali and got screwed by crooked judges, ditto Norton..and by all this, I mean to say that when you have to deal not only with your opponent, but also with crooked officials who just hate your style, then mentally, it CAN take a great deal out of you, like "what's the friggin' use?" you may start to think. Boxing's darlings, like Ali, were able to stink out the joint and hold and cllnch all night,due to crooked, nuthugging Ali worshipping fan-boy judges, but Young was penalized due to his style...the inability of the crooked officials to be fair to the supreme artist of Creative Negativity...who was able to make fighters with such diverse styles such as Ali, Norton, Lyle and Foreman look ponderous and foolish. Also some of you who go beyond a simple difference of opinion in either liking or disliking Young, and go so far as to say that Lyle or Foreman won their bouts with Young, are are guilty of the most extreme case of wanton foolishness and subjectivity and are too emotionally unstable to enter a thread and insult the intelligence of everyone with your childish obstinancy. You belong with your fellow creatures in the general forum.

Still, Young was talented and you're right about Ali. He knew he was worshipped so he could stink out the place as much as he wanted to(Frazier II and his uncalled foulplay against George) unlike Young who didn't have the benefits from judges & refs. Toney also has been under the wrong side of decisions because of underappreciation for inside fighting and the judges' misinterpretation of Ring generalship. If you're missing most of your punches and getting countered and hit with the better punches by your opponent throughout the whole fight, you're losing!

 

As much as i joked in this thread.... I'm just going to say that if you're lacking in name, or promotional power you have to fight like a mad dog. You cannot allow yourself to win inconclusively. Look at what happened to Mathysse twice. And that man fought like hell to get robbed. Say whatever you want about negativity, and that side of boxing as a legitimate skillset to be scored, but you should never be bitter or claim robbery when a fighter dependent on that style loses. Boxing is scored on effective aggression. Spoiler/trickster styles can foil an opponent's effectiveness, but they also have to demonstrate complete ring generalship to emerge a definitive winner, as mr. Whitaker would find out many times. It's never good enough to make a man look foolish. You gotta ****ing fight. Especially when you're a contender.

 

Whitaker still dominated his fights with Chavez & Ramirez being the better ring general. Anyone who thinks he lost to Ramirez or actually drew/lost to Chavez is kidding themselves. Pernell looked pretty good on offense and wasn't always a spoiler as his rematch with Mcgirt and brawl with Roger show. Young was offensive too in his career as a slugger but many people here forget or don't know that.
