I contend that Gerald "G-MAN" McClellan was injured by N. Benn's headbutt in round 9.

One thing I've wondered is whether Benn actually said, "Look at him now!" while looking toward McClellan. Not that it matters at this point, but I've seen that quote a few places but only the "they brought him over to bash me up, mate" part in others.

    Anyone know?

See...... Fact was, yes, G-Man went to England because the price was right and the cocky team of G. McClellan "THOUGHT" Nigel Benn would fold like a lawn chair under fire...................... Benn almost did cave in too, but, a cool referee aided Benn's hurt ass all through rd. 1 for the sake of Amon Ra..... Had the referee been a fan of G-man's, Benn would've been TKO'd in round 1....... Me Thinks / Opinion......

Thank you. I wasn't trying to judge him either way -- athletes should get a little slack for what they say just after a competition -- but thought it was curious that the "Look at him now" quote wasn't included in the big reunion story published a few years ago.

I wonder if the writer missed it or if he chose to exclude it because Benn would come across worse. Was just curious.

McClellan i recall had blinked alot in his last few fights which might mean this problem stems further back

He was hurt well before the Benn fight, it was obviously a problem he was dealing with for a while and that is the night that it transpired, if not for Benn it would have been someone else.

Although the referee has a lot of responsability for what took place that night, he kept Benn in the fight and allowed a lot of foul play.

Gerald v Nigel at their bests is no contest. Gerald by way of knockout.

The only way he could have avoided his fate is if he quit boxing entirely at the first sign of his problems, i don't ever see him making that decision.
