Again, you miss my point of Jones being better at SMW than MW, and being a great LHW as well, and showing he could carry the extra weight to fight at Heavy. I agree with the strength factor though.
Really? With that amazing one punch power that Ali so regularly showed off? I could say the same thing about Ruiz. He should've overpowered Roy, his Heavyweight punches should've taken Roy's head off, but they didn't. I am not saying Roy could hurt Ali, I am saying this, and listen up: Ali in his prime days relied mainly on his physical abilities, his quickness and reflexes, to get away with his textbooks mistakes. Against someone who is quicker with better reflexes than him, do you think that would not kinda mess his style up a bit? We're not talking about MW Roy here, we're talking the Roy who fought Ruiz. I would go with Ali to win still, but don't act like this matchup doesn't present some problems.
Its absolutely nuts for anyone to think that Roy Jones could beat any version of Ali, except for maybe the one who fought Holmes and Berbick. Jones was no quicker and no more skilled than Ali was, and Muhammad would have everything else in the area of size, strength, reach and durability. ****, Jones never even went 15 rounds in his career and now all of a sudden people are comparing his stamina to one of the most durable heavys of all time??? There is no way Jones is outboxing Ali, and absolutely no way that he's pressuring Muhammad. This matchup is a joke. Ali by KO between rounds 6-8.
It's totally obvious that Roy was a great SMW,and yes I'll agree he was a great light heavy too...I did not think I had to reiterate that point with you, but there it is...But that IMO does not translate at all for him being able to compete with Muhammad Ali....John Ruiz? Yes. Ali? No way.
Ali has all those other advantages yes, but the advantages he doesn't have are his two greatest assets, speed and reflexes, so he would have to switch it up to win. These are called matchup problems, not saying Jones wins though, as I've already said. Jones most CERTAINLY was quicker than Ali was as well.
if you're talking about a prime Ali...IMO the speed difference is slightly in favor of the heavyweight version of Roy Jones...Very slight.
The Ali from the Cleveland Williams fight? he would have loved to have fought a Roy Jones....Easy money.
Jones was certainly quicker, don't be stupid. And Ali's game relied much more on quickness than it did size or strength.
Against a prime Muhammad Ali...Jones is certainly not fast enough to get away...If Ruiz reached him...Ali certainly would...
I dont agree jones is faster, Ali in his Prime was atleast as fast as jones ever was and more likely faster.
I think this would be a slow-paced, wide decision win for Ali, whose strength and reach neutralize Jones' offense, while Roy is too slick for Ali to actually catch and hurt. Ali adapts very well and utilizes the natural advantages he does enjoy (reach, strength) to win something like 11-4. EDIT: I thought we were talking post-war Ali. In his prime, I think Ali has a solid chance to stop Jones, or at least put Roy in a shell the way way Roy did to so many others.
