Can you believe Oscar De La Hoya had the balls to fight Bernard Hopkins? Major Props

De la Hoya is getting underrated. He beat Trinidad, Ike, Roided Vargas, many think he beat Shane in the second fight. That's not a bad resume at all. He also put a better fight against Hopkins that Trinidad and Pavlik for example.

 

Except he should've won against Trinidad.

 

OLDH always fought the best. He took a few losses as a result, but he gained respect in the process. Respect > Undefeated.

 

oscar was great..he ducked no one..seems to not get enuff respect.

 

I will always admire Oscar for making that fight.

And to those who for some bizarre reason keep flogging the same ancient old dog****: To anyone with a brain, Oscar clearly won the Trinidad fight and the second Mosley fight. He also stopped a roided Vargas in a huge grudge match. He also got the decision vs Quartey and Whitaker in big ww title fights (depends on your scoring how you view those razor-thin fights).

Therefore, anyone still saying "he lost all his big fights" = mongtard *******. :nut

 

I watched that fight recently, and that really was a big challenge. I don't believe he threw the fight, you can tell afterwards he was disappointed because he felt he knew he could have beaten him. And while he wasn't all too impressive, Bernard certainly wasn't dominating and Oscar showed some good talent. A few things different here and there and it could have been a different fight.

 

It was a bold move... Somehow he felt bringing Hops down to 158 will raise his chances... Hops weighs in at 156, classy from both guys...

Look, Oscar took the fight because he knew he could capitalize on B-Hop's success and being a partner in GBP. It was strictly a business decision. Just like him picking Pacquiao.

 

Great Oscar fought Hopkins at 160!!! Oh wait..........yet he couldn't do it.

 

If we had fighters with the heart of Oscar Delahpya in every weight division . Boxing would be so much greater today .

 

I must say though, it is very strange how Oscar gets called a hero for fighting for a world title at a catchweight, and Manny Pacquiao gets vilified for doing exactly the same thing.

 

Oscar was the WBO Middleweight champ at the time, made Hopkins come down to a catchweight and still got his ass kicked. Props to Oscar for trying to drain a guy in his division and getting stopped regardless.

 

It's all relative. Pacquiao gets much more praise for his catchweight fights than he does criticism. I really don't see many people praising Oscar for simply fighting Hopkins. You get props for winning fights, not for stopped.
