Toney is right up there with the best technical fighters in the past 30 years. His slick style of slipping punches is excellent. However, in his early career he was a bit inconsistent in fights and was perhaps in love with his power at the time and could be slightly lazy (see his fight with Michael Nunn). At the time he fought RJJ he was probably p4p king, but losing the fight easily set him back. He claims, and it's widely accepted he was weight-drained for this fight at SMW. Check out his fight against Tim Littles, the ref was going to stop Toney on a bad cut & he went out & got the KO to finish the fight.

His style of slipping punches, whilst excellent has probably led him to being caught a fair number of times & he sounds pretty punchy these days. However, he is still good for some controversy! He was also quite out there in using Jackie Kallen as his manager at a time when women & boxing were regarded as incompatible. All in all Toney is a very interesting guy, with a pretty impressive career, and lots of interesting events & controversy never far away. He also has the same middle name as Marvin Hagler!

once great boxer squandered his name in his heavyweight run with name calling, weight gain, steroids and inactivity

    then he ate his words

anything he did good for the sport is being forgotten

Toney has a few nut-huggers in here but the facts are...

he got Owned twice by Sam Peter...

when Sam Peter lost to the Klitschko's he was a bum tho... :nut

but when he beat their hero Toney tho Peter was a great fighter!!

Toney got stripped of the title due to steroid use...

he thought he needed Roids to defeat Ruiz :patsch

he's Fat and eats alot, he'll do anything for $$$ to buy more FOOD! :hey

people make fun of him now..but when he came on the scene, he was kicking ass and taking names.....his activity and resume speaks for itself early on starting with knocking out undefeated michael nunn

    in just 3 1/2 years

the thing that makes him a bad ass is he had all these fights after he won his first world title...

Haye and the Klitschkos duck him...

In all seriousness, he was great at the lower weights. At heavyweight he was a bust.
