that was a stupid example from me, but doesn't change the fact that oscar was blown up and trinidad was smaller, fact of the matter is every fighter who hopkins fought with good foot and hand speed he lost to. tarver and pascal are great wins but both of them aren't great fighters themselves

There was nothing to 'bust' it was about as solid as the theory that DLH lost all his big fights. TS simply made it clearer for stupid (and or misinformed) people to see the facts.

I said he never beat any GREAT fighters naturally his size. Tarver is a very good fighter, but he was not in great physical shape in that fight. Losing the Rocky weight impacted him imo. that said, Hopkins still beats him. Im just calling it like it is. Its not to argue Hopkins greatness, he is a ATG fighter.

 

i've beat the haye drum all the way though the build up but my heads telling me that vlad is just too big for haye and will weather the storm and end up stopping haye around 9 or 10.

i hope haye wins though and i think he does genuinely have a chance. who you picking arcane?

 

My point is that Hopkins never had any truely great rivalries that he was pitted against another great fighter that was at a weight that was ideal for both of them. He beat a lot of good, solid fighters. But, his career defining win was probably Trinidad and even though he was the underdog he was logically gonna win. He was VERY underratted at that time.

Hopkins didn't mind taking on guys his own size. He had an issue facing guys his own size that had a speed advantage over him and knew how to use it.

Even if you scored one Taylor fight and the Calzaghe fight for Hopkins (I don't think he came close to winning that fight, but that's besides the point), you can't ignore that Hopkins himself looked terrible in those fights. So bad that those were the fights after which he was called for by many to retire. That was no mere coincidence. Had he only fought the more stationary guys like Pavlik and Tarver, he'd never have looked like he deteriorated that much in the first place. Hell, he looked bad enough that both Pavlik and Tarver were favorites against Hops- and that was based as much, if not moreso, off of how bad Hopkins looked prior to facing them than how good they looked going into that fight. I thought he looked like trash in the Jones rematch, as well.

That he was picking up probably the best wins of his career sandwiched in between some of his worst performances tells me there's a stylistic weakness there. Doesn't ever mean there's that many who can exploit it, though. Dawson could if his mind's in the right place

 

It's well established that you're a long-time Calzaghe hater...but this, this is quite something! Calzaghe "was naturally heavier than Hopkins"...:huhatsch Calzaghe fought in America for the first time and at 175 for the first time when they fought-- a weight which Hopkins was, by that time, well-accustomed to.

ps. Calzaghe was more past-prime than Hopkins
