How good is V.K.'s trainer---Fritz Sdunek?

Jisi hates him more than the devil himself.

I think he is a good and foremost very likable coach.

Sdunek is a top trainer. I think Wladimir will go back to him after the Haye fight.
He's back in Wladimir's camp now...

He is overrated in my opinion. If a fight doesn't go the way it's supposed to go, he is clueless. See Wlad-Sanders, Sturm-Macklin.
Vitali would be a great fighter, regardless if Sdunek trained him or not.

 

One of the best trainers in the world, his track record speaks for himself. Very good strategist, excellent mental coach, favors the German effective yet unattractive fighting style based on defense and jabbing.

I believe Steward said he didn't teach Wlad a thing, he learned everything from Sdunek and at the ams, Manny just fine-tuned based on obvious disadvantages. Ironically Wlad was far more exciting under Fritz, but ultimately his chin didn't hold up for that aggressive style of fighting.

He helped more than a dozen fighters to a world title but unfortunately he had to retire a few years back due to health issues. He now trains just a few, Vitali, Sturm and Erdei I believe.

 

A decent trainer all in all, but not one of the best. He can't make a good fighter great (push him to the next level) - like a Freddie Roach or an Emmanuel Steward can do. His best fighters were already tremendously talented for this sport before they started working with Sdunek, and would be greats regardless of their coach.

 

Saying Wlad didn't improve under Steward is nonsense. He improved a lot. Just look at the footwork. Steward taught Wlad to fight like a tall man - just as he taught Lewis. Wlad fought a more exciting style under Sdunek but without Steward we would not talk about Wlad these days as he would have been knocked out a couple times more and would have retired. Wlad was already good under Sdunek because of his talent, but he had no idea about fighting tall (like he should, being a tall HW).

 

Wlad wasn't reckless with Sdunek at all, the punch that knocked him down was Sanders' southpaw money shot that hurt Vitali (and Rahman) too, only they recovered and adapted where Wlad couldn't. Heavyweights need to be ready to take a punch and go 12 no matter who trains them, and at the time of those losses there weren't indications that Wlad has problems with either. Sdunek is not to blame.

Then of course Wlad went to Steward and ... gassed and got knocked out by Brewster, so was he reckless there too? What Manny did was actually taking away instead of adding, very limited use of the right hand only behind the jab, no lead right, no left hook or aggressive combinations, plus improved his footwork and psychological training. Credit there because it works. But only compared to this Wlad you can call the young one 'reckless', but then again, he really wasn't. If he were, he would've been knocked out vs. Mercer, Schulz, McCline whoever... Sanders just sold his money punch just as well as Haye might, although it will be a lot harder considering Wlad is far more accustomed to fighting righties.
