How does Haye have to appoach the Klitschko fight, does he start slowly, or fast?

Something I noticed he did against Peter to, he kept moving off in a circle once he landed, never going straight back when attacked, which helped him keep Peter in the middle of the ring.

Yeah I think that's what I would do, Haye cant afford not to put clusters together when he mounts his attack imo, as he might not close the gap down enough by only throwing 1 or 2 punches, also, Wladimir is prone to getting disorganized, so it would make sense in that regard.

Yeah, he has to feint to make Wlad reluctant, so he can offset Wlad's timing before he goes in. If he does't offset Wlads timing before mounting his attack, he might pay a price, cause I have a feeling Steward will of been working on countering Haye's rushes.

Again I agree, the lateral movement will help take break up Wlad's rhythm momentarily, to take away the jab, but he has to move with a purpose of landing to, not just to avoid the jab. Haye has to be moving to look for his angles, not exclusively just use it to avoid the jab, cause he wont be getting anything done offensively otherwise.

Haye somehow, is gonna have to try and rip the uppercut when Wlad tries to hold imo. How about the clubbing right, then a right uppercut underneath straight after, and finish on the left hook if he can whip it in?

Being too aggressive early, is too much of a gamble for Haye imo. Haye does that, his chance might be gone before he even gets chance to do anything, cause Wlad will be prepared for that early imo, and its not like Haye has a great chin himself, so...

Yeah, with Wlad having the height and reach advantage, 1 or 2 shots aren't really going to cut it. Once he springs an attack he needs to rough Wlad up as much as possible, and like you said, disorganise him.

Hayes timing would have to be spot on to land that right uppercut, but like you said, if he can set it up from a countering position...throwing that big right first, who knows? :good

One thing I find interesting about this bout is, will Steward become impatient with Wlad again? Steward clearly believes Wlad is more effective as an offensive boxer, he believes Wlad can get his opposition out of there much earlier. Will Steward egg Wlad on if Haye can somehow frustrate him? If so, this plays into Hayes hands IMO.

Wlad will come out cagey as usual. He won't take risks. He will be desperately trying to keep Haye behind that jab if Haye tries a rush tactic. In turn, Wlad will let his right hand go earlier than usual...once that punch lands clean, it's all over for Haye IMO.

Just to make it clear, I was mainly referring to when he's inside and Wlad tries to grab him. Once Wlad reaches out with his hands, Haye might want to try and jam the uppercut in as he tries it, if he can of coarse.

Well at first I thought it could be more dangerous, as it might give Haye a better shot at countering, but it might also be more dangerous for Haye if Wlad goes looking for him early, cause he might fire the right hand off a lot sooner than Haye is anticipating, and from what I've seen, Wlad seems to be pretty good at cutting the ring down, and even when (Wlad)he's aggressive, he still maintains (long range) that safe distance from behind the jab, so he might still make it hard for Haye to counter off his work, cause as you know, you need to draw someone into mid range to counter, that said, I can see why you would think that, it possibly might be more dangerous, just thought I'd put that out there to (food for thought)

I think Haye probably has better shot if he's more aggressive early, but that the % factor in terms of risk, is a lot higher. The margin for error is too small to be taking that risk so early when the opponents reflexes are at their sharpest, and when he will of been working on combating stuff like this.

Good point. You know everyone is talking, even Haye, about how Wlad wont fire his right hand off early, but what if he does? Haye thinks HE is the only one in the ring who's going to be trying to do something different, but what if Wlad surprises him? Wlad might be safety first, but he might also be one of those economical fighters who only bangs his power hand in there when he needs to, and in that scenario you spoke about, where he might need it, to maintain respect, who's to say he wont use it?

BTW AnthonyW, are you picking Haye or Wlad to win ?

Yeah I agree. I guess Wlad's mental state is a big factor also. Wlad at points could be on the brink of seeing red (afterall, he finally has Haye in the ring)...he may follow the gameplan, but then Steward starts asking for more. This possibly could lead to mistakes on Wlad's part, or like you said, Haye being knocked out.

Yeah, Haye gets really reckless when he is going for the kill. He squares up a great deal aswell. I wouldn't be surprised to see a few flash knockdowns before we see any real knockdowns from either fighter.

This will be an interesting thread to bump after Saturday. This is one of the few threads I can remember actually having an actual debate about this bout. :good

All I seem to be getting from the Haye camp, is that once you get past the jab, there is nothing else? that a little lateral movement will offset that, and once you've taken that away, he's almost done offensively, which is an extremely simplistic way of looking at it imo, especially for a guy who has an Olympic gold medal, its as though they think no one has ever moved laterally on the guy and been faster than him.

I mean lets get it right, if Wlad was less of a puncher, he would be easier to front door, to walk on and exploit, but that fact is, his power is a significant factor as to why people dont close the range, or cant, or why he's so effective from long range, he has the power to keep you where he wants you, either respecting the gap, or knocking out for NOT respecting the gap, it has to be, cause he has no inside game, no ability to shorten up his punches, so why is he so effective from range, it cant JUST be because he's cautious and disciplined, cause if he had no power, no inside game, people would just walk in on him.

Peter got hammered in the rematch for one reason, and one reason only, he tried to take it to Wladimir. Peter actually has a good chin to.

I aint saying Haye cant win, but I think there is more to Wlad than what he thinks.

If this happens. It's not really about maintaining respect, it could be fight over for Haye couldn't it...

I keep changing my mind to be honest. But even though I keep changing my mind, I always see Wlad as the big favourite if that makes any sense.

The one thing that is throwing me off is the confidence in the Haye camp. I believe two years ago, both Booth and Haye knew they weren't ready for either Klitschko...you could argue they were avoiding the bout, but you could also argue that they were delaying the bout.

Booth's confidence more so than Hayes. He has said very few words during all media sessions. The one word that got me was, "Enjoy". Now Booth has shown over recent bouts that he can get his boxers to follow strict, good gameplans effectively. Not on this magnitude before, but yeah...I'll stick with Wlad as the winner...for now.

Well what's ironic about it, is I remember Steward telling Lewis to be more aggressive against Briggs, as by that time he'd stabilized his career after the loss to McCall, and wanted more excitement from Lewis, only Briggs wobbled Lewis for his troubles, so yeah you never know.

But strangely enough, Haye is an effective finisher. IMO Haye does nothing right technically when he has his guy hurt, but he invariably uses his ferociousness, his speed and power to almost keep the opponent disorganized, incapable of finding a transition from defense to offense, that's what Wlad has to worry about if Haye hurts him and is able to get inside, Haye wont let him off the hook imo.

I believe Wlad is prone to getting disorganized when he cant calculate what your gonna aswell.

You are a sensible guy AnthonyW, I like talking to you.:thumbsup

Yeah good points. If you get past Wlad's jab, quite often you have to avoid the straight right, or the left hook. I haven't noticed him throwing the jab and then left hook fluidly, but if I remember rightly, if he missed the jab on Peter, and Peter took a couple steps forward...Wlad would throw the left hook.

I posted in a thread earlier. The question was, Is Haye a great finisher?

Now I stated that he wasn't a great finisher, but he has to be doing something right if he is getting all of these opponents out of there. And I think you hit the nail on the head why he is so effective.

    Well yeah

I must admit, whilst I picked Wlad, Haye & Booth have made me second guess myself with their confidence.

Booth says they're gonna pull a big surprise on people, but the only surprise I could see him pulling, that not many people are anticipating, is if he's able to compete with Wlad from range, like if he's able to use his jab etc, now I said in a video, that I think Haye might have an underrated jab, and Martinez surprised everyone by out-jabbing Dzinziruk, so maybe that is something there exploring? What also makes me nervous about my pick, is when I hear David Price has been sparring with him, now I know there is a big difference between he and Wlad, but not in terms of physically dimensions, and if Haye has been having problems with Price, or looking less than stellar, I doubt he would be displaying that kind of confidence, then there is people like Calzaghe saying he looks tremendous etc.

Haye has improved as a fighter imo, but Ima just go on what I've seen, rather than what Haye/Booth are telling us, so whist I give Haye a good shot, Ima still roll with Wlad I think.
