True :good And if Tubbs had have got the decision,we'd have seen him fight Frank Bruno instead of Witherspoon. So many heavies at that time had ability, but no dedication.

Indeed, at about 230lbs Tubbs would've outboxed Bruno, unless he was caught by a huge nuke.

I agree. The fight would have had a similar ending to the one with Witherspoon.

Nice one Vic, I've seen the exhibition with old Jofre but don't know much else about him other than he was a bronze medallist like you say.

If you've brought up Benn and Eubank with respect to tragic outcomes, I think it's tricky to include Griff. Emile did accomplish a great deal, easily enough to be a charter member of the IBHOF, but his temperament even before Paret III was not that of somebody aiming to take out an opponent. Clancy had to slap his face to motivate Griff to rally from behind to get the knockout in Paret I, then he essentially blew Paret II with a lack of spark. Seriously hurt by that round six knockdown in their rubber match, it wouldn't have been shocking if he failed to get up from that.

Entered Paret I with a record of 22(KO 7)-2-2. Both his losses and four of his wins at this time were by SD. Despite his acknowledged power, his final knockout total of 16 more career stoppages against an elevated level of world class competition may not have been too markedly higher without the Paret tragedy. Seemed to enjoy the conditioning process and application of it in competition more than punching his opponents, both before and after Paret.

Yes, he probably could have achieved more with a greater willingness to liberally apply the application of power, but he did it his way, and the pattern of his early career suggests his knockout percentage was always going to be anemic, and sprinkled with an array of close decisions.

Greg page, gerry cooney, charles "the natural" murray, Howard davis Jr, curtis parker, omar sheika, hector camacho jr. and sr., paul gonzalez, a lightweight whose last name was blake (can't remember first name). leon spinks (thought he'd do great as a cruiserweight).

I also thought that alex ramos would become great but evidently he couldn't leave that coke alone. Lightning ronnie harris was another underachiever.

A fighter most have never heard of, Len Matthews. Thought he was gonna be the second coming of SRR.

Like so many other look-alikes, he was Sweet 'n Low, not SUGAR.

Kelly Pavlik. He could've had some more fun fights but instead had too much fun in the bar.

Gerrie Coetzee. He seemed to have some head problems (confidence, etc.,) He seemed to be the real deal when he blew out Leon Spinks...I mean that was an IMPRESSIVE, electrifying performance if I've ever seen one, and then he underperforms drastically vs John Tate and Mike Weaver...Gerrie seemed to be impervious to pain and punishment and had the ability to box, along with having that bionic right hand... before he fought Weaver, that is..and I think his head problems influenced his poor performance against both men, really. Then he pulled it together for a Schmeling-type of performance vs Michael Dokes, only to look sloppy, ordinary and "kayoable" vs Greg Page..and nothing against those guys he lost to, but I think he was capable of beating any of them. A real head case...he didn't seem to believe in himself ultimately.

No Mas anyone? Not simply the fight itself and the way Duran quit, but the preparation was diabolical as was the decision to fight Leonard again so soon after.

Naz is another good shout. If he applied himself more he could have been great. But by the time he fought Kelley he wasn't training properly, and his heart was more into religion than boxing. Nothing against religion, but boxing needs to be at the forefront of all fighter's minds. It can't play second fiddle

If thats the guy i'm thinking of who was sent down for armed robbery then yes . I remember watching him fighting one armed for a british title and getting robbed by a guy who was obliterated by Howard Eastman in his next fight .

Lesser degrees: Hector Camacho, James Toney, Shane Mosley, Winky Wright and there was a cuckold situation with Stan Ketchel that annoyed me  but I took care of it.

My most recent disappointments, gents. :deal I thought Devon realized he had pro power and could sit down on his punches and mess people up. Since, he's mostly pulled all his punches and he's never getting respect from guys like Matthysse that way.

    Clottey... just :-(

One of the most tragic and bizarre stories we've ever had.

Clottey's made a nice living based on the fact that theres no TV money in Ghana and next to no Ghanian American community
