looks like a close fight to me. Rahman landing his jabs and Toney countering and landing nice potshots... They both are effecive in the inside.
Rahman's physical advantages helped him a lot. Sometimes Toney was able to just bully Toney out of position and land shots.
on a seperate note i think this goes to show how good Toney was. really a throwback. Rahman was not always consistent but in this fight he was damn sharp.

    i'll post a scorecard later

its very interesting to see Toney's skills even at heavyweight (clearly not in shape) and still manage to counter and make it a good fight.

Rahman's strength, jab, and infighting helped as well. I think Toney could have truly clearly beat Rahman if he was in good shape for it.

Had Toney taking it 117-114. Gave him rounds 1,3,5,6,10 and 12 and gave Rahman rounds 2, 7, and 9 with rounds 4, 8, and 11 even. 3 rounds is maybe lazy judging though in my defense I went straight through the fight and was doing other **** at the same time

Toney fought a James Toney fight as the saying goes and he should have got the decision because of it. Rahmans offense was pretty much rendered useless and he had to resort to rabbit punches and kidney shots on the inside. Honestly he should have been dq'd for it or at least had points deducted, Eddie Cotton is an idiot. To Rahmans credit though he wasn't made to look as foolish as Sam Peter when he fought Toney.

Rahman looked decent but Toney should've gotten the decision. He just did more in the inside and overall though Rahman was no pushover.

This was actually one of the first fights I ever watched live. I thought Toney deserved to win at the time, and was a bit pissed at the draw as Toney was probably my first favorite fighter. Haven't seen it since.

What about Rahmans inside work and bodypunches? Certainly his activity picked up in the late rounds and toney's declined

I haven't watched the fight since the night it happened, and I also scored it a draw. It was such a disapointment because it was one of the first fights that I stayed up and watched.

His inside work consisted mainly of kidney shots and rabbit punches..both of which are illegal and were mostly half assed :D

I wouldn't call what Toney did potshotting either amigo. But yeah a draw was a pretty fair verdict, Toney would have ran away with it imo if he was in shape.
