WBC featherweight world champion Jhonny Gonzalez has been offered a bout against unbeaten former IBF and WBA featherweight world champion the Cuban Yuriorkis Gamboa in September in Atlantic City. Gonzalez will make first defense of his title against Tomás “El Norteño” Villa in July 9 in Atlantic City. Gonzalez has expressed interest in a Gamboa fight, as well as unification clashes.

I like this one better than PDL...and Gamboa have a chance to pick up the belt taken away from him.

Oh that's so much better than PDL. Equally dangerous if not more, but for a world title which is something Gamboa doesn't have ATM due to Top Rank schemings and politics.

DO NOT OVERLOOK GONZALEZ! - around the Asiku fight I warned everyone he's one win away from being a legit top featherweight and he grabbed the opportunity vs. Hasegawa. If there's a fighter around 126 with a better punch than Gamboa's, it's Gonzalez. And he has a left hook too so it will be really explosive, someone is getting knocked out cold.

    Bring it on!

    agreed.
PDL is very aggressive and strong but slow and predictable.
Gonzalez is way better boxer.I like to c Gamboa fighting the best.
He already beat salido and CJ doesnt want to fight.I think JG is the best option. And Gamboa has been asking always for the best out there.

Gamboa has quite a track record

TKO over Rojas who took Caballero's unbeaten record
KO2 over Mtagwa who took Lopez to deep waters where he almost drowned
Wide UD over now-WBA champ Barros
Wide UD over now-IBF champ Salido who KO'd Lopez
KO4 over interim SFW champ Solis
Next - WBC FW champ Gonzalez

If he wins that he's EASY top10 P4P

Gamboa has never faced somebody with a losing record.NEVER.
De Jesus,Estrada(who beat Campbell after fighting Gamboa)Edwards,Jimenez,Ramirez(undefeated at the time)R.Gonzalez,Garcia... are solid gatekeepers of the division and Gamboa has never been in a close fight, either KO them or wide UD.
and there are still some chumps in this forum calling him a KO waiting to happen or a hype job.Poor people.:-(

YEA YEA but can he take on mighty Mike Garcia!? haha i cant wait for that one to get made.

Gonzalez while always dangerous is always vulnerable. I like Gamboa by KO here.

Don't expect that anytime soon. I think the IBF mess was created by Top Rank to get an easy route for Mikey to a world title, without facing Gamboa.

While Mikey is an excellent boxer-puncher, he'll always be too slow for Gamboa who's not as good defensively, but so much better athleticism would probably get him 7-8 wins out of 10.

Man your crazy. Normally you would be right but Garcias timing is top notch. Timing is the one thing that beats speed.

I would like Garcia to go for Gonzalez if Gamboa doesnt then Salido or PDL JuanMa and then Gamboa.

But even if they were to fight tomorrow i would pick Garcia. The kid has the goods. So far he will have to replace JMM as he will be retiring soon....

Let Mikey face a top10 guy first. Elio Rojas has good reflexes, fight him and let's see how he handles speed.

Damn, Gamboa's team is just dead set on making sure that I have to root against him (or rather, for his opponent) aren't they?

I thought Jhonny v Rafa would have been a good fight but I like this one too. Gonzalez is always exciting and I'm sure this would be better than Ponce de Leon.

I already have Gamboa in my p4p top 10 and fights like this can only move him upwards.

I respect Gamboa he has the goods to be a future great. The guy is undefeated but shows the determination to face the best that many undefeated fighters of recent years lack. He's good for the sport and with his exciting style, great power he's great to watch as well. I wish he wins in a great fight.
