Dont mock the lack of bathing, back in the day that was called a technically sound defense.

Famous for never training or doing any roadwork whatsoever, Willie Meehan ate whatever and whenever he wanted. He fought in all divisions from flyweight to heavyweight.

There are very few cases in this world where a fighter under 6'5 was faster at 240 than at a lean 200-210 pounds. And even in the case of the Klitschko brothers and Lennox Lewis, they were noticeably faster while closer to the 210 pound mark than 250. Not that they were better then. But when you're around 6 feet tall and weigh in close to 260 pounds, something's wrong with your training habits.

My take is that they were doing O.K at the weight they were, based on their speed and stamina.

I am not saying that I would never bulk them up, but I would take a lot of convincing.

Some of them could have used a little bulking, just like a reckon a lot of today's heavies could do with some intermittent fasted training, the fat slobs.
